The Minnesota Twins Players Project, check it out!
Brock Beauchamp replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
By the way, this is launching publicly Monday and we're hoping to enlist some Sabr people to help with populating players. If you want to grab one of your favorite players, do so now (but again, leave the top couple of tiers of players for Monday). -
Slow Spring Training, Any Reason to be Concerned?
Brock Beauchamp replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I don't get worked up about spring, whether the team is bad or good. But it's harder to consciously dismiss results when they're good.- 62 replies

Don't share this anywhere yet, we're still working out public launch details and promotion. But if you're here in the forum, that means you're an active part of our community and I'd like you to get first crack at claiming some of your favorite players. Feel free to poke around, add players, and read what is already there but please be judicious when adding top-tier players like Puckett or Carew. Even show restraint adding pretty good players like Cuddyer. Let's leave some of the ripest fruit for users when we launch. For every decent starter you create, try to create a few lesser-known players. But that still leaves the door wide open for you to claim some of your favorites over the years. But I already claimed Ron Davis, tough luck there. Please take a look and give opinions if you have any. https://twinsdaily.com/minnesota-twins-players-project/ And here is a tutorial explaining how to use some of the elements of the project.

Many of you saw me post about this earlier but we're looking to recruit people who have a passion for Twins history and its players. If you're interested in being part of a pretty cool project that will hopefully span thousands of players over time, please PM me and I'll give you more details. https://staging.twinsdaily.com/minnesota-twins-players-project/

Randy Travis William Dobnak was born in South Park, Pennsylvania. He attended Alderson Broaddus University and went undrafted out of college. He continued pitching for the Utica Unicorns and the Minnesota Twins signed him to a minor league contract without ever meeting Dobnak. He pitched well for the Twins, rising through the ranks until he made his major league debut on August 9, 2019 against the Cleveland Guardians, going four innings and allowing no earned runs. Dobnak was a critical part of the Twins' success down the stretch in 2019, pitching to a 1.59 ERA as the Twins rotation suffered multiple injuries and the suspension of Michael Pineda due to a positive PED test result. Dobnak started game two of the American League Divisional Series against the New York Yankees, allowing four earned runs in two innings of work. View full player

Gagne was a 5th round draft pick by the Yankees in 1979 out of Somerset High School, MA. In 1982, while still in the minors, he was traded to the Twins as part of the Ron Davis/Roy Smalley trade. He made his MLB debut with the Twins in June 1983 and by 1985 was the Twins every day shortstop. He was part of both the 1987 and 1991 World Series championships. He left the Twins in free agency after the 1993 season and signed with the Royals that same off season. He played with the Royals for 3 seasons and then played his final 2 seasons with the Dodgers, ending his 15 year MLB career after the 1997 season. View full player

As we gear up for another season of Twins baseball, it's time to look at the community members who made Twins Daily great over the winter. Image courtesy of Brock Beauchamp Hello again, Twins fans! Twice a year, I sit down and find the most popular posts and blogs on Twins Daily and their creators receive prizes for their contributions to the sprawling behemoth that is Twins Daily. While this offseason wasn't as action-packed as previous winters, there was still a lot to talk about. We look at the most popular posts and most popular blogs created by our users. Let's dive into the most popular content of the offseason. Most Popular Post Hey @Supfin99, come on down! In what was the most popular post of the offseason, Supfin99 takes on our very own John Bonnes over his Jorge Polanco take. In what was easily the most controversial move of the winter, opinions were divided on how losing the longest-tenured Twin would impact the 2024 team. Congratulations on your achievement and for your efforts, you will receive this TC-branded Dugout Mug! Most Popular Post Runner-Up Next up is one of our Caretakers, @Cory Engelhardt! In our write-up of prospect Austin Martin, Cory chimed in to say the Twins should consider handing the glove to Martin and letting him take his shot. After a couple of frustrating seasons, the centerpiece of the Jose Berrios trade put together a solid second-half of the 2023 season and it appears Cory is a fan! Sorry Cory, you win nothing. But thank you anyway! 😃 Most Popular Blog Entry As always, the Twins Daily user blog section was humming all offseason. We averaged nearly a blog a day for most of the winter. Coming out on top in audience engagement was Whatever Happened to 50% of Revenue for Payroll? from @jharaldson. Years ago, Dave St Peter, president of the Twins, used to promote the idea that half of all revenue went to the MLB payroll. What changed? That's a damned good question and jharaldson, you're taking home this Kirby Puckett bobblehead for asking the right questions. Most Popular Blog Entry Runner-Up Yet again we have someone using and abusing Edwin Starr in @Doctor Gast's WAR! HAH! What is it good for? As one might expect, this blog entry ruffled a few feathers, questioning the utility of the various WAR stats and how they apply to catchers, Yadier Molina in particular. Nothing riles up the dorks like questioning advanced metrics, and I include myself amongst their ranks. Most Prolific Poster As always, we highlight the poster who earned the most "points" during the offseason. You are awarded points for creating content and others liking your content. This is a pure numbers game and this winter, @chpettit19 takes home the glory. I haven't checked but they probably got a chunk of those points complaining about Gast's piece on WAR. That's all for this winter, folks. Give a round of applause to all of those mentioned in this piece and we're only two weeks from Opening Day! View full article

So I've posted a bit about this in the past, some of you surely saw those topics. We're getting closer to a launch date on this but I want to make sure the community is on board and interested. We're looking for a group of people who find this kind of esoteric baseball sicko behavior appealing. We'll need a small group who are interested in monitoring additions/subtractions, adding player images, etc. while we'll need a much larger group who are interested in adding content, wiki-style. Take a look and let's talk about it! https://staging.twinsdaily.com/minnesota-twins-players-project/brooks-lee-r3/

Why am I a fan of this (fake) poverty franchise?
Brock Beauchamp replied to AZDane's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Also, look at your own argument. Yes, the Diamondbacks made it to the World Series. But they lost. And who'd they lose to? One of the most free-spending teams of the past three offseasons. -

Spending money is one way to win. It's not the only way. But not spending money decreases your options to field a winning team. Overall, spending money increases a team's chance at both the postseason and the World Series. It's not the only way to get there but it's one way to get there. And the more options you have to a path there, the better you'll be in the long run. -

The Angelos were terrible owners, some of the worst in the sport and that's saying something. Thankfully, they're now gone. -
Why am I a fan of this (fake) poverty franchise?
Brock Beauchamp replied to AZDane's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I'm unhappy with ownership's decision to reduce payroll in the middle of a contention window and I won't tell anyone to feel otherwise. But if you think the Pohlads are bad when viewed on the scale of baseball ownership, you're not paying attention to the rest of baseball. The Pohlads are entirely adequate owners. I can rattle off a dozen ownership groups that are markedly worse than them. -
