  1. Robert Murray of FanSided has reported the Twins are aggressively shopping catcher Christian Vazquez in hopes of clearing up salary space for positions of greater need. The Twins will be reducing payroll in 2024, which puts the front office in a bind as they try to build in their 2023 AL Central champion squad and the franchise's first postseason wins since 2004. Vazquez signed a three year, $30 million contract before the 2023 season. Last season, the 33-year-old had a terrible season at the plate, posting an OPS a full 100 points lower than his career mark. The Twins might have difficulty moving $20 million of contract for a player who hit closer to Drew Butera's career mark than league average. View full rumor

  3. Interesting point. I suppose that really depends on Giolito. If he's looking for a one-year deal, he might get close to $20m. If he wants a multi-year deal... *shrugs*
  4. Okay, so I'm leaning toward starting a player wiki for Twins players. This would be user-generated and maintained by the community. If you have interest in being one of the stewards of this idea, please speak up here or PM me. The way I envision working is so: This will only be open to verified or higher members, which means no one will be able to create an account and ****post content. We'll create a supergroup of volunteer users to keep the wiki clean and aligning with our principles. They'll likely approve all additions and changes to the wiki, though the mechanics of this are still undecided. On to the content itself... what do we want on this page to differentiate it from content found elsewhere? This is what I've come up with so far: Bio: pretty basic stuff, hard to see this wiki working without some kind of biography field. Personal experiences: this is where fans can post short blurbs/stories about their interactions with the player. Highlights/accomplishments: A bullet-point list of career accomplishments by the player. B-Ref: A link to their B-Ref page. User gallery: User-uploaded images of the player, either personal or stock imagery. Tagged articles: A list of front page articles that have the player tagged in them. Tagged community content: A list of blogs and forum threads that have the player tagged in them. External links: Any articles of note about the player that are note-worthy. Thoughts? What makes this different than other content out there? And how can we make this as streamlined as possible while also providing valuable resources for users looking for information?
  5. I dislike Lance Lynn and I dislike the Cardinals.

  9. I also doubt they will but they certainly can if they want to. Michael Pineda was a free agent and they signed him to a similar deal.
  10. The same reason Carlos Correa or Josh Donaldson chose the Twins. They offer the best package.
  11. Absolutely but Woodruff's upside is ace-level. It's a gamble but IMO a good one.
  12. Now that we're past non-tender day, the list of available free agents is as robust as it will be this offseason. It appears the Twins are going to be working with little money this offseason so the top names are likely off-limits. But yesterday, the Brewers were unable to trade or come to a longer-term agreement with starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff. This is a perfect Falvey moment. Woodruff will likely not pitch in 2024 after undergoing shoulder surgery. He'll need a place to rehab and return in 2025. Woodruff is an ace pitcher nearly on par with Corbin Burnes. If he can recover from shoulder surgery, a one-year make-good deal aligns perfectly with the Twins' interests.

  14. He's not a replacement for 2023 Gray but he's a replacement for Sonny Gray's median performance. Replacing Gray's 2023 season will be virtually impossible. But Peralta gives you a good shot at getting one of those freak 5+ win seasons that players of his calibre can pull off from time to time.
  15. I'd much rather have three years of Peralta over one year of Burnes, especially given the newly-imposed payroll constraints of the Twins. You're both underrating Peralta and overrating Lee. Lee is probably a global #40-60 prospect this winter. So was Aaron Hicks at one point. Lee is a nice prospect but given the infield assets the Twins already have in place, he can easily be swapped for someone at a position of need.
  16. No. Freddy Peralta is really good and his contract is ridiculously team-friendly.
  17. Oh, I disagree. I think Lee is eminently tradable. I'd go for a Lee plus prospects for Freddy Peralta all day long (from both teams' sides, really).
  18. Wholly agree on all of this. I think Lewis can be a third baseman but it's not a great fit for his tools.
  19. Yeah, I'm definitely in no rush to trade Lee but given the newly self-imposed payroll limit, if the team wants to improve, they're going to have to make some deals.
  20. I honestly don't know. I had him written off as a DH based on early results but by the end of the season, he had clearly improved at second. I don't think he'll ever be good, or maybe even average, but I think he has a chance to stick at second. Which makes me more willing to trade one of the Lee/Lewis/Julien triumvirate, preferably Lee.
  21. Lee's arm is supposedly stronger and he's less speedy/rangy than Lewis. Their skillsets should match up nicely at third and second base, respectively.
  22. I'm not sure Lewis is interested in playing OF. He absolutely did not want to be there in 2023 and the Twins went along with that. I don't know if that was a one season thing as he recovered from the ACL or if it's a permanent preference. But Lewis's skillset looks nice at second.
  23. I think you have that backwards. Lee should probably slide in at third while Lewis moves over to second. It's a better use of their defensive skillsets.

  25. Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune wrote in his notes today that Derek Falvey, President of Baseball Operations for the Twins, mentioned that the team would likely pursue a first baseman this winter. This is a surprise and also not a surprise. Alex Kirilloff had offseason shoulder surgery, though it was less severe than anticipated and he will likely be back in time for Spring Training. The Twins also have Jose Miranda, a right-handed hitter to platoon with Kirilloff, now left without a position with the return of Royce Lewis last season. Derek Falvey: Edouard Julien could also be without a position entering next spring but given he's also left-handed, it's hard to see the Twins trying to wedge him into a platoon with Kirilloff. Rhys Hoskins is the preeminent free agent at the position this winter but given the Twins' newfound payroll constraints, could easily be priced of the team's comfort range.
