  1. Welcome to TD!
  2. I'm not worried about the team as a whole - yet - but I've never been particularly high on Varland, especially as a starter. I think he ends up in the bullpen relatively quickly, which *really* hurts rotation depth. I'm not falling over myself to put Simeon Woods Richardson in his place but that's the only real option right now. Ownership blew it this offseason. Slide Jordan Montgomery into this rotation...
  3. He grooved that 0-2 hit right over the plate. It was a terrible pitch.
  4. I’m not too far from being done with Varland in the rotation.
  5. I'm pretty sure that was the one. He was really bad ONE YEAR and was a pretty meh fielder in all other years. It's one of the most inexplicable performances I've seen watching baseball.
  6. No matter the outcome, walking Wallner to face Julien is DUMB.
  7. A man that athletic had absolutely no excuse for how he played the game on both sides of the ball.
  8. They let Flaherty off the hook with that quick inning.
  9. Oh, Delmon. He "only" peaked at a -14 DRS but his consistency was impressive, as he posted consecutive -14, -11, -11 numbers.
  10. Grossman, in just 635 innings, was -20 Defensive Runs Saved. That's so bad it's impressive.
  11. Robbie Grossman, 2016. I've never seen anything that bad, Margot isn't even in the realm of that performance.
  12. What is the Players Project? It's a community-driven, wiki-style project that focuses on Twins players of all stripes. It's open to all Twins Daily users and we've had contributions for current players, past players, and players who never even made the major leagues but played in the Twins farm system. The project is open to all Twins Daily users so create your favorite player today! We saw several more players added to The Minnesota Twins Players Project this week, including our first Hall of Famer. Let's take a look at the top entries of the past week. 1. Rod Carew First off, thanks to @Greglw3 for adding our first Cooperstown player, Rod Carew. He spent considerable time writing up a lengthy bio and highlighted some of the greatest moments of Carew's tenure in Minnesota. Carew is the only top-ten WAR leader currently added to the project so if someone out there wants to take a shot at Puckett, Killebrew, or Santana, the door is wide open to do so! 2. Tyler Jay An old friend made his major league debut this week. Former first-round pick of the Twins, Tyler Jay, appeared for the New York Mets. It has been a bumpy road for Jay since he was drafted early in the first round of the 2015 MLB Draft. Now 29 years old, Jay has made two successful appearances with the Mets, pitching 4.0 innings with a 2.25 ERA. 3. Shane Mack Our third entry was by yours truly and he's one of my favorite Twins players, not only due to performance but because of the bizarre twists his career took time and time again. Shane Mack was a player before his time and while he accrued nearly 20 wins by Baseball-Reference, he didn't break out until his age-26 season and then lost more than two prime seasons to the MLB strike and playing in Japan. The Minnesota Twins Players Project is open to all Twins Daily users. If you're a Twins history buff or just want to dive into the background of your favorite player, come on board!

  14. There's an easy fix to roster churn but MLB will *hate* it. When a guy is called up, he gets ten days of service time and pay. You can demote him the next day but he's paid the MLB rate for ten days. Second, lower service time required to qualify for a full season to ~120 days. You can still roster churn all you want but it's gonna hit your pocketbook in a big way.
  15. It's good to see the Tigers haven't lost their mojo. Just ****ing clowning out there.
  16. Right, I see what you're saying. Technically he is returned to the minors but because there is no restriction on call-ups, he could be demoted for literally five seconds and then brought back to the major league team.
  17. Yep, the 27th man must be demoted after the game. https://www.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/27th-man "That player accrues one day of MLB service time and is returned to the Minor Leagues following the completion of the doubleheader."
  18. You sure about that? I'm like 95% sure the 27th man is required to be demoted. I'll start digging.
  19. That's fair. If Santana has another 2023 season in him, the signing is just fine. My skepticism is whether he's capable of doing that.
  20. He's the 27th man for a doubleheader, he HAS to be demoted back to the minors per MLB rules.
  21. He has been terrible but it's 50 plate appearances. I was leery of the signing due to his age (and I watched him a lot with the Brewers in 2023) but it's too early to even think of cutting bait.
  22. I'd probably send SWR out for the seventh but it's entirely defensible to pull him. He's a young starter that shut down the Tigers offense, get him off the mound before things unravel. It's not a ridiculous way to look at the situation.
