  1. Question about WPA: is it score +/- neutral? For example, does it care whether the team is ahead by three runs or behind by three runs, provided the differential is three runs? Curious about Magill and whether his WPA is hurt because he pitches from behind regularly. Also, it's friggin' ridiculous that Magill is leading the bullpen in WPA.
  2. People are overthinking this. If an MLB player is sent to Ft Myers, that means there is probably something going on that doesn't involve swinging a bat at a baseball. Ft Myers is the Twins' home away from home. It's where the Twins have their primary training and medical facilities and where everyone goes to rehab. That doesn't mean Sano is injured; they could be concerned about his diet, training, or mental state, amongst other things. But it's highly unlikely this is purely an on-field baseball decision. Otherwise, Sano might get slapped down to Chattanooga at most. He won't learn much, if anything, against Florida League pitching.
  3. Absolutely, yes, they are. Ft Myers is the second home of the Minnesota Twins. It's where they have their primary training and medical facilities.
  4. If someone is sent directly to Ft Myers, that likely means they need access to the training facilities. Otherwise, there’s no reason to send a guy like Sano to that level. He would destroy Florida League pitching at 60% strength.
  5. Sure, but that’s a gamble you’re going to take either way and I’d like to protect any postseason performance more than a couple of mid season starts.
  6. The only real money there is tied up in Morrison and Lynn, two last minute “aw, why not?” signings. Never mind that neither has a monetary commitment past this season.
  7. I mostly agree with this but I'd still try to work in some breaks around the ASG out of caution. Because if his arm fatigues in September and the Twins have climbed back into this thing, it will really hurt to remove Romero from the stretch run and possibly the postseason. Two or three games skipped in July and August could be important insurance for September and October. You don't even have to skip that many starts, in all likelihood. If you use creative off-day management and the ASG, you can probably push out his starts to 7-9 days a couple of times, effectively skipping one start.
  8. This was pretty easily a top five "most annoying game I've ever watched" experience. What a terrible game past the first inning. Just pathetic and embarrassing performances from everyone not named Berrios.
  9. Never mind that if we want to play the gotcha game, it turns out that this team needed JD Martinez, not Justin Verlander (or Yu Darvish). Who called that before the season started? Certainly not me and certainly not anyone else I remember on this forum.
  10. Yep, this kind of **** will expedite sexuality ultimately being considered a protected class in this country (as it should be). So keep at it, dip****s.
  11. They don't need to enact more tariffs, really. The thing about tariffs is that they won't have a real impact for quite awhile, certainly not seven months. So maybe Trump gets elected from the clownshoe demographic again... unlikely, but possible. He didn't even win the popular vote last time and his popularity numbers are still bad. Thankfully, he has two more years to drive this lawn dart into the ground before election season (thankfully?). But Congress will swing Democrat. Maybe they won't win outright majority but it'll equalize a lot. And that means when the census comes around in 2020, liberals will be in the driver's seat. They'll have a president everyone hates with bad economic principles with a Congress primed to sweep over the nation. Not that I really like the Democrats, but they're far less idiotic than the current GOP.
  12. To be fair to the man who deserves no fairness, singing in a group with speakers echoing can throw off anyone who isn't trained to sing.
  13. To be fair, that was a bad pitch from Pressly but Garver gets no leeway at this point. He's a butcher behind the plate.
  14. Damn, Max, way to scare that bastard back to third base with that throw.
  15. As much as Realmuto looks good on the Twins, no way do I pay the price of Lewis plus prospects for him. In this situation, I'm totally fine with the Twins aiming a bit lower with Ramos or someone less than Realmuto but controllable for a couple of seasons. If you can get Realmuto for Gordon plus prospects, I'm still a little hesitant but open to discussion (it depends on the rest of the prospects involved and how many).
  16. That's some top-notch (god-awful) baseball in a laugher (close game) against a good (bad) opponent.
  17. I'm a pretty solid Dozier guy and even I'll say that I'm not sure any team in MLB will want, much less need, him in 3-4 seasons.
  18. Definitely a bad PA but against a RHP, that ball gets to the infielder most of the time and a run scores.
  19. I agree their situational hitting is pretty abysmal but I don't think this is a good example of it. The Sox made some nice plays and happened to be standing in the right place to prevent runs.
  20. I'll chalk the two nice defensive plays up to bad baseball luck but the score should be 2-0 right now and that's all on Garver.
  21. If you square up and hit the ball like a rocket, it doesn't matter if the ball is on the ground or in the air. There's a reason why line drives have something like a .750 batting average.
  22. LaMarre absolutely drilled that ball. The defender happened to be in the exact spot to catch it because he couldn't move more than a foot before the ball reached him. That's luck. If you hit the ball 100mph and an infielder somehow manages to catch it, you (the hitter) did your job, you just ran into baseball luck.
  23. Not really. The Sox are just getting crazy lucky right now. They lucked into two outs, both of which should have scored runs.
  24. Wow. The entire Sox team has rabbit feet in their pockets tonight.
