  1. Outside of Super Two status, that makes sense, doesn't it? A prospect gets off to a hot start but the front office wants to give them more than a month to show if it's sustainable. So maybe they stretch it to two months... and there's June. Or maybe the prospect gets off to a rough start and stumbles for 2-3 weeks. Then they turn around and mash for six weeks... and there's June. A starting player goes down for two weeks in April. That injury stretches to four weeks and the front office needs a longer term solution... and there's June.
  2. This front office has too many smart people in it to worry about the arbitration number of a starting pitcher three years from now. If the starting pitcher is still healthy, you're happy about it. If the starting pitcher is so good that you owe him a pile of cash through arbitration, you're thrilled about it. People are really overthinking this.
  3. Super Two status barely even registers. So the guy gets a few extra million earlier than expected. If it happens, it means the guy has been good enough that you don't really care and welcome the (still cheap) addition to your team. Doubly so on a team with no long-term commitments. Not even one. This decision almost surely boils down to innings pitched and/or refinement of approach. Service time doesn't make sense, as the front office wants the best possible pitcher going into 2019, and that means Romero at the MLB level.
  4. Especially pitching prospects. You'll be lucky to get 6-7 years out of any starting pitcher, no matter how elite they may be in the minors.
  5. You continue to conflate "case-by-case policy" with "blanket policy". Of course some children are going to be separated from their families if concern over the child's well-being is in question. We do it every day to our own citizens. It's called Child Protective Services and is absolutely necessary. That's a hell of a long way from "all children are separated from their families".
  6. And this is what pisses me off about the situation. Listen, I get it, we can't agree on some immigration policies. But there is overwhelming support for two things: 1. Dreamers get to stay. 2. Locking up children is absolutely horrific policy. Yet Congress refuses to address those two points without trying to sneak in broad, wide-ranging policy that the public is split on: the wall, prosecution of those who enter illegally, etc. Here's an idea: go ahead and pass the **** that everyone agrees on and fight over your pet immigration bills separately on another day. This strategy is commonly referred to as "doing the right thing".
  7. It amazes me how conservatives overlook this at every turn. We've gerrymandered the House into a non-functioning entity. It's both parties' fault but only one party has a considerable majority (yet still can't get anything done). But hey, just keep blaming the minority (and mostly feckless) Democrats.
  8. You mean like the GOP did to Obama for six straight years? They even refused to vote on a SCOTUS nomination. Pretty sure Trump got to nominate his guy, though. I'm not defending every action of the Democrats over the past 18 months but don't even try to play the obstruction card. In case you haven't noticed, the GOP controls every level of government right now.
  9. I'd add in Kirilloff if the Marlins are willing to buy high on him. No to Lewis. Not because I'm down on Kirilloff but because the Twins have a good outfield under control while the middle infield will likely be in flux over the next few seasons.
  10. Good God, man. Come up for air. This is horrible policy. So completely and conclusively awful that no decent person should be defending it. These are human beings with families and children. They deserve respect, compassion, and unity. That doesn't mean you need to agree/disagree with either side of the immigration debate; this is simply a basic human decency issue. There's a reason why most major churches, other nations, and pretty much every non-partisan group in the country opened both barrels and skewered this administration over these camps (and, yes, by strict definition, they are "concentration camps"). Your argument sounds a hell of a lot like the "slaves had it pretty good" lunacy circulating a few years ago before everyone with a conscience showed such horror in response that everyone stopped saying it. If this was such a good idea and Trump is on the side of right on this issue, explain why he backpedaled so fast and furiously and drafted an EO just days after he said "this can't be fixed by Executive Order".
  11. I'm so glad to see Gibson emerge as a legit starting pitcher. For years, I lobbied that he still had untapped potential, as his overall career IP (combined MiLB/MLB) was extremely low for a pitcher his age (drafted out of college, TJS, multiple small injuries). But even I had soured on him by the start of 2017. It's good to see someone take him under their wing and get with 21st century baseball, eliminating the mantra "low in the zone" and just letting the guy hurl the ball at the plate with his best pitches.
  12. I can't believe I've never done this before, but I just winced in pain after looking this up. Polanco, Buxton, Sano, Santana, and Castro combined for 17.5 rWAR in 2017. Christ, no wonder this team is kinda bad this season.
  13. I don’t mind seeing them lose but that game was just awful and boring.
  14. Just thought I’d pop in here to let everyone know that I actually paid a bunch of money to watch this abomination of a baseball game. Yay, me.
  15. Lance Lynn has an ERA 1.4 runs higher than Kyle Gibson but has over twice as many wins (5 vs 2).
  16. This team is weird. Can’t take care of business against the White Sox and Tigers but play the Red Sox and Cleveland straight up.
  17. Lynn is throwing so many garbage pitches again. Even Cristian Guzman wouldn't swing at them.
  18. Adrianza runs at half the speed you expect a guy built like that to run.
  19. With Murder Victim's Row coming up, what chance do we have to see this run score?
  20. Rosario would have tried to reach the opposing team's dugout on that ball.
  21. Nice to see the DP but I just don't like watching Lynn pitch. He's the type of pitcher I find incredibly aggravating.
  22. Eddie's a professional. There's a contract for pizza and ice cream.
