  1. No, probably not by much. But we should all be wary of those teams that have to go through the grinder to make the postseason.
  2. This is a very fair take and while I'm not quite sold on the "could be downgraded to not part of the team's future", it's not really off-base, either. Sano could be a powerhouse. As it stands, he's Adam Dunn lite. Sure, in today's game, he can be a quasi Dunn but his K rate is astronomical and his walk rate isn't Dunn-like. He needs to either drop the K rate or raise the walk rate. That would make him Adam Dunn. If he does both, he could be great.
  3. The 2001 Mariners started something like 20-5. They ended up with an incredible 115 or something wins. They didn't do so hot in the postseason. Let's not get so wrapped up in the regular season record that we lose sight of what actually matters.
  4. I'm just trying to save you from the panic attack of a four game losing streak, man. We're all riding high right now but low times will come. Thankfully, this team has been SO GOOD that the low times will likely be brief and only surrounding by good times... but they will still come none-the-less.
  5. They were modeled to be an ~85 win team eight weeks ago. There's still a hell of a lot of baseball left to be played, folks.
  6. I don’t even need to read the article to know what it’s about (but I will) and it’s one of the biggest hurdles of autonomous driving: predicting the unpredictable. Humans. We’re insanely irrational and erratic creatures.
  7. Remove the progressive over-rulings and then look at the number again.
  8. Yep. I can’t recall the specifics but if certain things were hit in the dome (I think speakers were one), the ball was still in play.
  9. Without a doubt. The home field advantage will be nice but we shouldn’t be fooled by records at the end of the season. A 102 win Twins team is likely inferior to a 97 win Yankees or Astros team.
  10. Yeah, my point is that the Twins have hung with everybody and beat most of them.
  11. I third that. I like Keuchel fine but is he better than Perez, Berrios, Gibson? Maybe he is but probably not better enough to drop the opportunity cost of a huge bullpen improvement.
  12. I’d happily give Kimbrel a prorated $40m contract for two seasons. The thing is that the *least likely* term length of a Kimbrel contract is two years. He’s going to either want one or three plus.
  13. That's pretty much my point. They're playing like a 100 win team right now but there are still over 100 games left in the season. The Twins are almost guaranteed to be a pretty good team, more likely a very good team. Whether they're a 100 win team is still very much in question.
  14. I'm not particularly worried about Sano's stats this season, I'm worried that his career low in strikeout percentage is 35.5%. That was also his rookie season so that's another not-awesome point to bring up.
  15. No, they're not definitely a 100 win team. No team is definitely a 100 win team on June 1st.
  16. I never said Sano can't produce, I'm saying he can't hit his ceiling if he's giving away a full one-third (or more, in this case) of his plate appearances without putting the ball in play. And no, there's nothing different between a strikeout and fly/groundball out. But you're looking at only the negative outcome of a ball in play, not the ~30-35% of the time a batted ball drops safely for a hit. A strikeout has no positive outcome, only a negative.
  17. And this is why the strikeout rate will continue to worry me if it's over 33% of PAs. It's very hard to become a rounded (and great) hitter when you're giving away that many PAs. With that said, Miguel is absolutely crushing the ball when he makes contact. The team has the luxury of just letting him figure it out through the summer and hope something clicks.
  18. The Twins have a losing record against just two teams this season: Yankees and Philadelphia. They have a 1-2 record against each of them so it's not as if they're getting killed by anyone.
  19. At worst, the Twins will finish the Brewers/Rays series with a 3-3 record. It's becoming almost impossible to question this team's legitimacy. Sure, they're maybe not a 100 win team but they're a very good team that can easily get better with a couple of key acquisitions.
  20. I don't even know if that's really possible in 2020 but it needs to be the Democratic long game. They need to break the social clutch the GOP has on rural America and start selling those people on things that will actually help them. Which is why I still seethe at Hillary's "basket of deplorables" comment. It was pure idiocy on her part and that kind of damage takes a long time to repair.
  21. Naked in a jail cell with a mohawk and fresh tattoo usually falls under that category.
  22. A lot of you really suck at this. Just sayin’.
