  1. Brace yourself because the Twins are definitely giving up a top 30 prospect for an established starting pitcher. I expect something in the 10-15 range.
  2. The Twins are in the same situation, though. They're waaaaaaay under their payroll threshold. I expect the Twins to take on most, if not all, of the salary because why not? If the Braves want to deal with someone else for a better prospect, let them do that.
  3. This is what I'm most interested in, really. Who doesn't Falvey like? This will be an interesting test of how he views the org and wants to change it going forward. None of the players in question are "his" guys so I expect we may be surprised by the result.
  4. I value Thorpe more highly than either Gonsalves or Romero so... yeah. Definitely agree on that one. Stewart? Eh, still too valuable but I value him quite a bit less than those three. But Stewart is approaching reasonable return area for a Garcia rental.
  5. Which makes me think they got what they consider a good deal on Garcia.
  6. Gonsalves and Romero. Both of which are far too valuable to give up for Jaime Garcia.
  7. It's not the type of move that excites Twins fans but it's probably the right kind of move to make.
  8. I couldn't stop laughing after I saw Buxton round second. I just had a feeling he was going to be waved home and the absurdity of it all was priceless.
  9. I would not bring up Gordon. I don't trust half of a breakout season where he's failing miserably against LHP (.538 OPS in 56 PA). I'm still pretty lukewarm on Gordon, actually. I think he'll become a productive MLB starter but I remain unconvinced this season is for real. That doesn't mean he can't become a .780 OPS player in MLB - which would make him very valuable - I'm simply not sold on his .850 OPS. That's why I'd consider trading him while his value is high.
  10. Their methodology is completely broken. Until they measure how quickly Buxton can run in a three-legged sock hop with Max Kepler, this means nothing.
  11. Yeah, I think the stocks will rebound but it would have taken at least a week, maybe more to get back where I was. Amazon and Google took a drubbing and they were two of my larger investments.
  12. Man, I chose the right day to bail out of the market. Had I not cashed out on Friday, I'd be down more than a grand in total value right now. Spent the past several days trying to figure out how to get my money out of my stock account. Finally got the money into my bank today and called the bank to ask if there was a maximum payment limit on bill pay. They said there was not. Well, there is. It's $10k a day. So it'll take me a week to finish off the mortgage. Oh well. Progress!
  13. Nor should they. Kintzler is doing a fine job of closing games, the Twins simply need to do a better job of getting to Kintzler. This is a textbook example of why I believe a team's "closer" should be their third-best relief pitcher. Getting through innings 6-8 is what kills the Twins, not the ninth inning. I don't even believe Kintzler is the team's best reliever and it's still a problem.
  14. If you're not going to miss bats, Kintzler profiles as an acceptable closer: he has decent stuff, he keeps the ball on the ground, he doesn't issue free passes, and he doesn't give up home runs. If a guy is entering a clean inning with >1 run lead over half the time, a pitcher with that profile is going to have success in racking up saves. He's even safe most of the time with a one run lead, as it's going to require the opposing team to string together at least two hits to score a single run.
  15. We all realize the last seven games with Cleveland have been objectively hilarious, right?
  16. To be clear, my opinions are of Gonsalves and/or Romero, not their plethora of bullpen options. I don't understand what's happening with the bullpen right now.
  17. Are we talking about one guy here? And, be frank here, what has Gonsalves done to warrant a promotion? Before last night, he pitched games of 6.0, 5.0, and 5.0 innings. He has only six starts on the season, including last night. And all of this happened during the middle of the draft, when pretty much everyone involved has other matters on their mind. If Gonsalves spends another month in the minors, I'll be irritated as well. He should get a promotion soon but with everything else going on in this organization, are we really making a fuss about a guy coming back from injury who hasn't been able to average 6.0 IP per start in AA?
  18. I mean, that's fair, but there has to be some kind of opportunity cost at play here as well. You want to keep your MiLB clubs happy so you don't just throw darts at a board when acquiring org filler. Someone has to go out there, dig into the options, and spend the time making it all work. Whereas if you just wait a few weeks, the only thing you need to worry about is who to cut, not who to acquire. In the case of Gonsalves, I think the team might make an exception if he was destroying the league. But really, he's been good and only has six starts on the season. He's not even averaging 6.0 IP per start. He's also returning from injury. Is that a guy you spend energy on to make sure he jumps a level and reorganize some of your MiLB pieces while your entire organization is focused on something much more important (the draft)? I'm not sure it is. As we all know from our daily lives, some things simply don't get done in the here and now due to larger priorities at hand. If Gonsalves was truly forcing the issue, I could see more legitimacy in questioning why he's not in Rochester.
  19. Ah, okay. I could have sworn he spent two weeks on the bench the first time he was called up.
  20. It's pretty commonplace under the new draft signing rules to keep your MiLB rosters largely in place until you begin inserting draftees into the system, forcing a bunch of players to slide up a level. I suspect we'll start seeing promotions in the next few weeks. And it's not as if Gonsalves has been destroying Southern League hitting. He had a nice start last night but went only 5.0 innings his previous two starts.
  21. To collate a bunch of posts about my comment, yes and no. Polanco was burning the options anyway but he often came to Minnesota, sat for a few weeks, and then was demoted again. That's not a useful development cycle, especially considering Polanco's age at the time. It's slightly different with Romero because he won't be sitting but I still have some of the same problems with the idea: if a guy isn't ready, he isn't ready. Romero doesn't even have a lot of time at Chattanooga yet, only 12 starts. His numbers look pretty good but aren't eye-popping. He's still only 22 years old. While one or two starts wouldn't likely kill the guy, things have a pretty high probability of getting ugly if he was facing MLB hitters. And while lots of prospects recover quickly and shrug off blatant failure, it can also set a guy back weeks or even months if the outings were truly disastrous. I just don't see enough upside in him starting right now to risk that situation.
  22. True. He was also playing in the FSL, a notorious pitching league. Change "2016 Gordon" to "2015 Gordon" and the point makes more sense.
  23. While that'd be great, it's an unreasonable expectation from any draft pick, particularly one in a draft where no clear 1-1 pick was available. If you can get an above average MLB starter from any pick, you did okay for yourself.
  24. I hated when the Twins did it to Polanco so I'm not going to advocate they do it to Romero. Call the guy when he's ready, don't disrupt his development for a game or two of play.
