    And it's not as if the Twins have no room in their rotation for both a healthy Santiago and another pitcher. God forbid, that might actually make their rotation passable.

    Some have, but I always thought he was a decent retention. Yeah, there's risk with any mediocre pitcher who outperforms his peripherals but considering this pitching staff, his modest upside could have been useful given the other options.

    It takes talent to get talent. Garcia is mediocre but Burdi is a wildcard due to injury. I wouldn't jump at the idea of giving up Burdi but it's a reasonable trade.

    40 man be damned, Thorpe is still just 21. I can see the Braves questioning Burdi's medical but if I was them, I'd take Thorpe for Garcia and howl for joy immediately afterward. He's an injury concern but so are lots of guys. Right now, he's healthy, young, left-handed, and flat dealing. It's not as if Garcia is some lust object in the rotation.

    Maybe, but that's being stupid-picky. I'm not one to usually overvalue prospects but I'd be immensely disappointed if the Twins let Thorpe go for a middling starter rental.

    Nope, just an assumption based on watching baseball for 30 years. Established starters don't go for nothing, nor should they.

    Brace yourself because the Twins are definitely giving up a top 30 prospect for an established starting pitcher. I expect something in the 10-15 range.

    The Twins are in the same situation, though. They're waaaaaaay under their payroll threshold. I expect the Twins to take on most, if not all, of the salary because why not? If the Braves want to deal with someone else for a better prospect, let them do that.

    This is what I'm most interested in, really. Who doesn't Falvey like? This will be an interesting test of how he views the org and wants to change it going forward. None of the players in question are "his" guys so I expect we may be surprised by the result.

    I value Thorpe more highly than either Gonsalves or Romero so... yeah. Definitely agree on that one. Stewart? Eh, still too valuable but I value him quite a bit less than those three. But Stewart is approaching reasonable return area for a Garcia rental.

    Gonsalves and Romero. Both of which are far too valuable to give up for Jaime Garcia.

    It's not the type of move that excites Twins fans but it's probably the right kind of move to make.

    I couldn't stop laughing after I saw Buxton round second. I just had a feeling he was going to be waved home and the absurdity of it all was priceless.

    I would not bring up Gordon. I don't trust half of a breakout season where he's failing miserably against LHP (.538 OPS in 56 PA). I'm still pretty lukewarm on Gordon, actually. I think he'll become a productive MLB starter but I remain unconvinced this season is for real. That doesn't mean he can't become a .780 OPS player in MLB - which would make him very valuable - I'm simply not sold on his .850 OPS. That's why I'd consider trading him while his value is high.

    Their methodology is completely broken. Until they measure how quickly Buxton can run in a three-legged sock hop with Max Kepler, this means nothing.

    Yeah, I think the stocks will rebound but it would have taken at least a week, maybe more to get back where I was. Amazon and Google took a drubbing and they were two of my larger investments.

    Man, I chose the right day to bail out of the market. Had I not cashed out on Friday, I'd be down more than a grand in total value right now. Spent the past several days trying to figure out how to get my money out of my stock account. Finally got the money into my bank today and called the bank to ask if there was a maximum payment limit on bill pay. They said there was not. Well, there is. It's $10k a day. So it'll take me a week to finish off the mortgage. Oh well. Progress!

    Nor should they. Kintzler is doing a fine job of closing games, the Twins simply need to do a better job of getting to Kintzler. This is a textbook example of why I believe a team's "closer" should be their third-best relief pitcher. Getting through innings 6-8 is what kills the Twins, not the ninth inning. I don't even believe Kintzler is the team's best reliever and it's still a problem.

    If you're not going to miss bats, Kintzler profiles as an acceptable closer: he has decent stuff, he keeps the ball on the ground, he doesn't issue free passes, and he doesn't give up home runs. If a guy is entering a clean inning with >1 run lead over half the time, a pitcher with that profile is going to have success in racking up saves. He's even safe most of the time with a one run lead, as it's going to require the opposing team to string together at least two hits to score a single run.

    To be clear, my opinions are of Gonsalves and/or Romero, not their plethora of bullpen options. I don't understand what's happening with the bullpen right now.

    Are we talking about one guy here? And, be frank here, what has Gonsalves done to warrant a promotion? Before last night, he pitched games of 6.0, 5.0, and 5.0 innings. He has only six starts on the season, including last night. And all of this happened during the middle of the draft, when pretty much everyone involved has other matters on their mind. If Gonsalves spends another month in the minors, I'll be irritated as well. He should get a promotion soon but with everything else going on in this organization, are we really making a fuss about a guy coming back from injury who hasn't been able to average 6.0 IP per start in AA?
