  1. Sure, no one hits with 100% accuracy but they essentially did the exact same thing two years later. I can't call their drafting "very good" at that point.
  2. My point was that if you want to trade high on Rosario, sure, let's do that. But there shouldn't be a question whether Rosario is more valuable than Granite. He is. He's a better player. He has been since he was drafted. Rosario is a tweener, maybe a starter, maybe a backup. Granite is likely a backup. And that's what bothers me about the current tone of the board. Too many are acting as if Granite is better than Rosario and not questioning whether he's a starter at all. Rosario is a questionable starter, Granite is a pretty clear backup.* *obviously, Granite could turn into something special, but so could any player, see Brian Dozier
  3. Yep, but ask yourself a question: Who do you see as a more significant contributor to the Twins, Granite or Rosario? I don't believe that's a difficult question to answer.
  4. Man, it fascinates me how much this board overrates Granite. Yeah, he had a good half season in the minors. Maybe that sticks in MLB but his track record is pretty spotty. On the other hand, do you know who had an .825 OPS in the minors? Eddie Rosario.
  5. Neither Cleveland nor Kansas City has lost in ten days. Do not acquire any more players. Sell off what you can.
  6. Are you kidding me? I listen to Provus whenever possible. It wouldn't be fine, it'd be a vast improvement.
  7. It seems to me that casual fans are getting a crash course on why shifting for every hitter isn't a great idea.
  8. Please share your work. I'm skeptical but not trying to bait you. I'm honestly curious about your methodology.
  9. I don't believe their drafting can be classified as "very good" when they've swung and missed at two pitchers drafted in the top six picks.
  10. I feel the same way. I think they likely lose a couple of games with a Santana trade but how much that impacts them really depends on who replaces him. If it's Gonsalves, the difference could be -3 games or it could be 0 games. Hard to say.
  11. Could they, though? I agree the bullpen could/should have been addressed in a more significant way but the rotation was basically a crapshoot from day one and there was little to be done about it. Also remember that one of the key pieces of the rotation - May - was lost just days before the season began. That stung. It's possible, maybe even likely, the Twins are 3-4 games better right now solely by replacing a terrible starter with a mediocre May (which is a reasonable expectation, as his ceiling is probably more in the "decent starter" range). Never mind that it's a leap to assume Santiago was going to be a tire fire because he lost velocity. The bullpen should be better than it is today but I simply don't see a way the Twins could have significantly improved the rotation. Of course, we can't assume all starters will be healthy for a full season but even a partial season with a rotation of Santana, Berrios, May, Santiago, and Mejia would be miles better than what we've seen in recent weeks.* *With all of that said, call up Gonsalves already. Crikey.
  12. Yes, at this point, just clearing him off the 40 man is a victory of sorts. It's nice to get a lottery ticket for him, just as the Twins did with Palka. The thing about lottery tickets is that they often don't pan out. It doesn't mean it's a bad deal. If you're releasing a sure loser to pick up a possible winner, that's a deal you make every time.* *not that Murphy is a sure loser, but he's damned close to it at this point
  13. Eh, Palka is a disappointment but Herrmann had an extremely lucky year. I call the trade a wash, a shuffling of deck chairs. Chris Herrmann, as it turns out, has turned back into exactly what we knew he was.
  14. That's a possibility but True Detective was its own beast. It was a standalone story that took years to craft. Whereas Stranger Things is a more linear, traditional show. That doesn't mean the showrunners know where to go next (see Heroes) but it's easier to write a second season of this kind of show than starting over from scratch with a new idea.
  15. Maybe a little but still not a certainty. Colon has been bad this season but only marginally worse than Gibson and his recent track record is a lot better than Kyle (though he's ancient so those halcyon days may be over for good). As for Santiago, I'll take a healthy Hector over a healthy Kyle if I'm trying to win this season (and probably in general, actually). They're close enough in age where it's not a factor and... Gibson has 667 IP, an 86 ERA+, a 4.39 FIP, and 6.0 K/9. Santiago has 785 IP, a 101 ERA+, a 4.85 FIP, and a 7.8 K/9.
  16. I simply do not understand this narrative, which seems to have gained traction on the board. Gibson had a decent game against a terrible Detroit team. Before that, he had what looked to be a decent start that, in typical Gibson fashion, imploded at the end. Before that, he had a brutal game where he went 4.0 innings and gave up 7 earned runs. How is Gibson getting hot? Because if this is him hot, yeesh.
  17. That's how I'm reading the tea leaves as well. And I'm not being snarky here but it always fascinates me how people seem to get upset every time the Twins release a mediocre player. Honestly, why does anyone really care about Haley? He was on the DL for a couple of months and was a marginal talent in the first place. If anything, I'm in favor of the Twins releasing more players of his ilk (which they've been doing more, though I wish it had started a month ago).
  18. I'd prefer to see if Santiago can get healthy and bump Colon out of the rotation. If healthy, a rotation of Santana, Berrios, Mejia, Garcia, and Santiago should be quite competent. If one of the latter three go on anything approaching a hot streak, it might even be a good rotation. All of those pitchers are either already above average (Santana, Berrios), somewhere around average (Mejia), or have a long track record of average pitching (Garcia, Santiago).
  19. Nonononono. Mejia has earned his spot. He has a solid ERA and strikeout rate. Mejia stays, Gibson goes. No question about it. You're better in both the short and long term that way.
  20. Which is why I lean toward Gonsalves. He's not on the 40 man but he's pitching well in AA and is 23 years old. I don't think the Twins should care too much about burning options at this point.
  21. If they can't get a deal done for a starter at the deadline, they need to call up either Romero or Gonsalves. Hell, that might be the right decision either way. It's not likely but it's possible that one of those guys could outperform someone like Jaime Garcia over ten-ish starts.
