  1. This is likely Dozier's one and only shot at big money free agency. What makes you think he'll take a short extension? Back when he signed his current contract, he wouldn't allow the Twins to buy out even a single year of free agency. Frankly, Dozier would have to be kinda insane to accept anything less than a four year extension right now.
  2. Only three of them are starting regulars. Only two of them are above average. Only one of them is very good. Every team has players coming off the books every season. The Twins don't have some plethora of remarkable talent on expiring contracts, they have a few good players, most of which are eminently replaceable.
  3. Yeah... this. But the front office has given the team a legitimate shot to actually win through the playoffs, which is about all we could ask for this offseason. It's not a great shot, but it's a shot.
  4. It took me six clicks to get from this page to that article on the Strib. #WinningUX
  5. You’re comparing Morrison’s altered approach that paid dividends over a full MLB season to Lamarre, who had ~50 really good plate appearances against rusty opponents, many of whom will either be waived or sent to the minors. Not really the same thing. And I’m not against taking a flyer on Lamarre, but I’m dead set against swapping him for Grossman, a guy who has shown he is a capable MLB player in games that matter.
  6. Whoa whoa WHOA. Grossman had a .770 OPS in the minors. Over his last three partial seasons, he had an OPS of: .914 .703 .823 Ryan Lamarre, on the other hand. He had an OPS of .814 in 2016. That's swell. His career MiLB OPS? .719. His highest OPS outside 2016? Well, he had a .767 in rookie ball in 2010.
  7. Getting on base is the new (but somehow now old) black. Seriously, if you don't appreciate a professional backup with a .360+ OBP, I don't really know what to say.
  8. I know the answer to this: No one cares. Really, that's the answer. It doesn't matter how much service time Granite does or does not have. At his peak, he's pretty much Ben Revere.
  9. Given these weather forecasts, no. Jesus, we've had like one day at 50 degrees or better this year and nothing that high is forecast in the next 15 days.
  10. As someone who knows Betsy both as a person and as a friend of Twins Daily, I really appreciate all of you who have participated in this thread and shown empathy for her situation without judgment. This is a difficult situation and I'm proud of how most of the posters on this site have talked about this delicate subject. Maybe it's time to move on. Maybe MLB didn't find evidence to suspend Sano (but let's not conflate lack of evidence with innocence). As an individual, I do not know what happened that night but I know Betsy and I trust her statements. That doesn't mean I want to vilify Miguel Sano or run him off on rails; but it does mean I earnestly feel for Betsy and the hurt she obviously feels over this entire ordeal and I think that's something everyone should keep in mind while posting in this thread, and most of you have. Again, I thank all of you for showing restraint, consideration, and a little understanding before you post about this topic.
  11. Several of us actually know Betsy so I wouldn't call it "nothing". A few of the Twins Daily folks knew about it before Betsy said anything publicly.
  12. I have no idea how to feel about this. I'm glad it's over with but it feels like justice may have fallen a bit short here. Hopefully MLB did their due diligence (from what I know, it appears they did) and came to the right conclusion.
  13. Eh, I'd call him "bad". He was absolutely brutal in 2016 but outside of that one season, he's just been bad.
  14. Eh, it doesn't matter. One rainout changes everything. Besides, if Lynn can wrap up two wins against bad-but-not-awful teams, I'll take it.
  15. I don't care for Hughes in the rotation to start the season but I'll tolerate it if he has a *very* quick hook and they leverage the opening series' on/off silliness to make sure he barely pitches.
  16. It's disappointing that Gibson lines up for the home opener but only from a spectator standpoint. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter one bit.
  17. Offensively, they should be fine. I expected them lower due to the defensive side of the ball. Escobar is pretty shaky at short and Polanco is a question mark.
  18. Higher than I expected. With Polanco, I thought the Twins might crack the top half of baseball. Without him, I expected to see them further down the list.
  19. I think this is one of the big movements in MLB front offices right now (figuring out how to communicate and create data channels between coaches and analysts). You need some kind of bridge in most cases: the analysts don’t know how to coach and the coaches don’t know what to ask. I think Pickler is likely that bridge for Minnesota.
  20. Sure, he had a great OPS the first half of last season. He also had a good OPS the first half of 2016 before crashing and burning. He's not the type of prospect you push through the system, as he has no outstanding traits. You stay the course and let him develop naturally. Besides, it's not as if Adrianza is some hack. His bat is pretty weak but his glove is good enough to hold things down while you get a better read on the situation. And I'd bet 3:1 odds that if you gave both Adrianza and Gordon 50 games at short, Adrianza would have the better numbers by a long shot. He's not going to blow you away but he should put up replacement numbers or better, and I think asking that of Gordon right now is a real stretch.
  21. What’s best for Gordon is what’s best for the Twins. We’re talking about a 22 year old who faded hard against AA pitching last season. And now we want to promote him to Minnesota? It’s as if Aaron Hicks and Byron Buxton never happened.
