A nice comfort in life is when you can go to the same guy or woman for a haircut. Completely eliminates the "How do you want it cut?" question! And also eliminates the awkward small talk with random hair stylists. 

Just recently learned how to replace the battery in my car! Woke up on Saturday morning 2 weeks ago planning on meeting a friend at the golf course, only to find out the car battery was toast. Attempting to jump the car did nothing. 

General Motors does a hell of a job hiding the car battery under the hood....

I agree with the premise of the OP. I DH almost everything in my life.

i've been to two different places so far in Oregon (sigh, I had found the right one in MN....), not sure how I feel about either so far.

Yeah it took going to 3-4 different people at first before I found the right stylist. Now I've been going to her for a year and a half. She knows how to cut it the usual style, and whenever I feel like a change, she knows of good ones to try out too! 

 

I agree with the premise of the OP. I DH almost everything in my life. 

Hell, even payments for me are DH'd. Auto-payments are a great thing. 

 

2. Mechanic – Over the years… I’ve learned to jump start my car and I know how to put gas in the tank. And… well… that's the entire list of things that I can do for car repair. If something goes wrong… I will pop the hood and take a look… hoping to see a giant on-off switch to switch on or off. At that point… I throw up my hands and give up.
 

I learned how to jump start my car without jumper cables. Get it rolling then pop the clutch. Of course, that wouldn't work on an automatic. But I don't own an automatic, never have. I also used to change my own oil and filter. That was fun ... well, was mostly 'fun' saying I knew how and could and did do it. But there is no need to fuss with that now. Besides, I'm not allowed to do such things in my condo building garage. Beyond that, I let the car's computer tell me when something needs to be checked and/or done. Okay, well, when the low tire pressure light comes on, I can handle that one myself, too.

I get my hair cut by the daughter of a former World Series MVP.  Shout out to my girl Donna.

Last Holiday, my brother's and I were talking about our favorite cars.   I mentioned "4 on the floor"  and a niece asked what that was.  After I explain, she exclaimed "BARBARIC!"

1. Hair Stylist – I can’t cut my own hair… correction… yes, I can cut my own hair but not with that evenness that people strive for. When the time comes... I sit down in the chair and wait for the question that they ask me every time, “How do you want it cut?" I don’t know because I don’t know the hair style code that must be necessary to communicate what you want done. Is it like play-calling in football? Pro-Left Split 439 F Motion Right. Are there specific names for each style that I don’t know? I’ll have the Beehive please. Do they have all the famous people memorized? I’d like a Donald Trump. I am satisfied with the results of cutting my own hair, but i'm not one who strives for an evenness i don't even get to see...

 

My usual payment for getting my hair cut is they (the friend/barber) get to choose the hair style, and i'll wear it for a week or more until i weary of it, and clip it short.

 

True story. On one such occasion, a friend gave me a tonsure. I liked it so much that i shaved around it, and held it for more than a month (the last few weeks letting the hair grow out, so i could clip it down to what constitutes evenness for me) And during that month, i got pulled over and had my car searched, a story sufficiently interesting on its own i often forget to mention i had a tonsure at the time. True story.

It's also tough to picture a new hair style when you've perfected the look for 30 years...

That's actually the civilized drive ... it's the other that isn't so much.

 

My Dad had a Chevy truck that was 'three on the tree' ... it was fun to drive, while he still had it.

The only three on the tree that I've driven was a grain truck.  Not so much fun to drive.  None whatsoever.  

 

If driving around the metro area didn't suck so bad with a stick, I'd have one.  I also enjoyed driving manuals.  Automatics take some of the fun out of driving.  Traffic takes the rest of it.

Meh ... I drive my little 6-speed around Chicago. Yeah, it can be a little tedious but mostly it's fun.

When I was a kid I had scarlet fever.  My hair would get knotted at the ends.  Later I developed fine hair that the wind could blow about with great ease,  Some of the wedding pictures from my first marriage have my hair all over the place.  Later in life I started getting flat tops since, due to the scarlet fever, my hair had started receding early in life and it was continuing it's retreating march. Seemed the right time to do it. Then, about 10 years ago, I just got it all buzzed off.  Loved it.  Went home and took blade to it.  Loved it. I kept it shaved (shaved it every other day) until I retired from the military.  Now, one every couple weeks, I just have my wife shave my head.  No need to tell the barber what I want done with my hair and the cost of haircuts, well, can't beat it :-)

I can cut my own hair as most would say bald when describing me. As to evenness, i'm good at what I see in the mirror,hair in the back others can worry about that, if they want; but I bet its even   .​
