Not unless someone else signs him this season. So, no.

 

Doesn't really accomplish anything, but there must have been a reason to do it now. Maybe he requested it?

If he wasn't going to be signed for next year maybe he wanted to rehab at home rathr than Fort Meyers.

Other pitchers of note being released, is Volquez worth a look? never mind, the Dodgers signed him

That, or maybe the Twins told him he wouldn't be offered a contract for next year. In that case, no reason not to make the break official now. I think the Twins are still on the tab for the rehab, regardless.
