Jeff Passan's top moves for contenders going into the trade deadline

So the Twins are listed here as being in the contenders, which is fun to type out.

Their best match would be starting pitcher Foster Griffin from the Nationals. Their dream match is Kevin Gausman from Toronto.

It also lists the best match for the Yankees as Ryan Jeffers, Milwaukee's dream match as Joe Ryan, and the Phillies dream match as Byron Buxton (I just can't see that happening. I also don't see Ryan going, but I think it'd be the smart financial decision even if I would want him for a potential playoff push if they are truly going for it.

 

Thoughts? And what would be a fair trade for Griffin or Gausman? 

I figure, if they can trade away from their glut/surplus of outfielders in the majors and AAA for any semblance of either help or prospects, that's not a bad thing. I wouldn't trade Jenkins or Culpepper right now, but I'd be open to add if they are still playing well.

Aren't Griffin  and Gausman Joe Ryan? They aren't dealing for him. He's got 1.5 years of control left?

Agreed. I don’t see both paths being taken. If they are in contention and buying, I can see adding a starter to keep with Joe Ryan: if they go downhill and are trading Ryan, they aren’t adding a rental starter

Interesting take. I hadn’t really thought about starting pitcher as a trade deadline position. Been more focused on the bullpen.
