Major League Ready Verified Member Posted June 20, 2025 Posted June 20, 2025 If I were to pick the top 3 break-out / comeback position player prospects it would be Sabato followed by Gonzalez, and Baez. Jose Salas gets an honorable mention. He was great at high A but with only has 7 games at AA where he has been mediocre so far. The pitchers are much more debatable IMO. Anyone care to chime in on position players or who they would pick on the pitching side. jorgenswest 1
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2025 Posted June 20, 2025 GG is top of the list for me. Sure, Sabato is good this year also. I think Culpeper playing good SS defense is a breakout, given the questions about that when drafted. And Diaw is giving us all hope at catcher. jorgenswest 1

I hated the pick which has me cheering for him now all the more. It would seem like a gift if he turned into something. jorgenswest 1

Linus Verified Member Posted June 20, 2025 Posted June 20, 2025 I don’t know what constitutes “ breakout” but I would nominate the Cedar Rapids combo of Culpepper, Winokur, DeBarge and DeAndrade. All of them could lay claim to being a legit prospect at SS and all have swung the bat fairly well or better.

I am thinking in terms of prospects that have been quite ordinary in previous seasons but have broken through this season to perform at the top of their respective league. Another way to look at it would be players that have substantially elevated their ranking within the organization. DeBarge and Culpepper have looked good but they were high draft picks just last year. They were already highly ranked and expected to perform.
