Article: Twins Minor League Report (7/1): Kernels Still Poppin'

You have to wonder why Tim Shibuya and Burris are in E-town. There are a few lots of pitchers in AA & AAA who could be released. It would be good for the Twins to open a few spots up in the low minors.

Shibuya had not pitched since about mid-season last year and was rehabbing all spring. He's likely just getting into some games and will sometime soon get to Cedar Rapids for some time.

Burris was very solid last year out of the E-Town bullpen. He started this year at EST and was moved up to Cedar Rapids about a month into the season. It didn't go well. So, he's back in E-Town getting a chance to start. Hasn't been terrific (yet) in that role.

Why did Melotakis get his start sniped by Pelfrey? Why didn't they just push him back a day?

He's up to 73+ innings now. As a reliever last year and in college he's probably at the most he's thrown in several years. I'm guessing they were fine with him getting just 3-4 innings last night.

Pushing Melotakis back would have also meant pushing all of the other starting pitchers back. Better to just affect one guy a little bit.
