jorgenswest Verified Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 The most recent Effectively Wild podcast had a lot of Twins talk. Would you trade Buxton for all the heralded Royals 2010 prospect group? Is Joe Mauer's contract worth it? How does Caleb Thielbar stand out this year? Give it a listen if you haven't already... Red Bull Provisional Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Do you mean their 2011 prospect group? Thats when they were all ranked high. Baseball America ranked them: Hosmer-8, Moustakas-9, Myeres-10, Lamb-18, Montgomery-19... The difference between Sano and Buxton and Hosmer and Moustakas is that Sano and Buxton have dominated every level of baseball they have played in. Hosmer and Moustakas were bad early in their minor league career. Moustakas' first 2 seasons in the minors were not good, he was an average minor leaguer than in his last year and a half he was really good. I believe guys like that have a bigger chance at becoming a bust, I mean look at Collabelo hes amazing in tripple A just like Hosmer and Moustakas but we all know he will never be an established pro. The one prospect out of their top 3 in 11' that did dominate at every level is Wil Myers, who is now playing really well in the majors and people believe he could be a star. I just think that to be a real elite prospect you need to perform at a really high level at every level, not just start playing well in tripple A. To answer the Question I wouldnt trade Buxton for all of them because I would look at Hosmer and Moustakas' track record and see theres a huge chance they are busts, which would mean Myers is the only real elite prospect but nowhere near the level of Buxton. Of course its easy to say that now but im sure I wouldnt of traded for them. Then again 5 top 20 prospects is pretty amazing.
