There is some creative accounting going on there. The Brewers franchise is estimated to be worth $1.6 billion. Unless the owner has $1.2 billion in debt and no other assets, they do not have a net worth of $400 million. If that is the case, they should not be an MLB owner.

Look up Dunning Kruger sometime.

I don't really agree with the argument that the Twins are not trying to field a winning team. Yes they cut spending this year. BUT they have tried to go after big name free agents and have spent money on them. Correa. Donaldson. Much more than in years past. We were a farm team for other clubs. Young talent would never stay because we would not pay. Like the draft and any trade, things don't always work out. And the Twins history of things working out is grim. Do they spend as much as the Yankees? No. They can't. They do not have the same revenue and never will. That just means the deals they do make have to work out or fans say we "should have" done ... whatever. You never know how things will work out. That's the beauty and curse of baseball.

Isn't Mark Attanasio principal owner of the Brewers?

Sounds about right. Looks like his Net Worth has jumped to $700MM now. It was $400MM when I last looked. Bankruptcy is typically the result of liquidity issues, like what was happening with the Mets when MLB forced a sale and the Padres when MLB forced a reduction in their payroll.

That's interesting news. I wish the article Gleeman linked as a source actually had mentioned the Twins. Statista has been updated with Twins revenue for 2023 and it's identical to 2022, but it's showing a dramatically higher number for 2024 (not sure how it got there.)

Athlon sports added some information.

I'm not sure if the revenue sharing or playoff revenue pushed the Twins over the top. If true, the Pohlad's really do share a larger portion of the blame. Certainly won't help optics at all with a rightly enraged fanbase.

I thought I read somewhere that teams make a couple million per game after paying the player bonuses so that's roughly what they made.   My memory could be faulty so take that for what it's worth.  (not much) The BAM money while widely ignored was the biggest boost to revenue/profit last year.

In my estimate earlier this year, I projected the revenue based on attendance and tried to guess at the revenue the playoffs would have added (I think I figured $15MM profit additional to basically squeak the team near $0 profit). I didn't majorly revise revenue sharing since there's just too much to calculate there. Everybody's numbers are speculatory to an extent.

Regardless, the bad press for the Pohlad's isn't going to stop any time soon. Somebody is going to take the heat.

For making $19M last year?
