Gibson has a crazy wild outing

In the same game where Hicks was crazy good, Kyle Gibson was crazy bad.

Gibson struggled to locate his fastball and gave up six runs on eight hits, a walk and three wild pitches -- all fastballs -- over 2 1/3 innings in Minnesota's 10-6 win over Philadelphia.

Gibson talked about how the only problem was that his fastball command was dismal, and that he had the same problem in the Arizona Fall League. For a guy coming back from elbow problems, this seems like something to keep an eye on.

But we've already got one of these dudes, don't we? That Deduno guy who kept

hitting the mascot last year, right?

One more reason Gibson doesn't start the season on the 25 man...

Probably not too surprising for this to happen. From what I've read/heard, post Tommy John velocity tends to return fairly quickly while command can take a while.

I would've thought that you would've gone with Wild Thing. But I guess that's just a personal preference.

It's a starter/reliever thing for me, but great call on the comp. Also, Gibson strikes me as more of a likeable Nook Laloosh rube than a veteran of the California Penal League:

No surprise. Same thing happened in the AFL. In his first 2 starts, he was tremendous, good velocity and sharp slider. Then he struggled with his control for a few starts and was hit around a little bit. I think that is very normal and expected. They talked a lot about trying to keep him from doing too much too fast this spring. He could be fighting the dreaded "dead arm" earlier than others too.

Gibson is very much a control pitcher, so I'm not worried about the control at all.

He also appears to have no need for glasses (yet.)

Gibson pitched in 3 A games: He had a great game, an average game and a mediocre game. Cannot take any one of them out of context and make conclusions about Gibson and his control. Maybe he woke up in the wrong side of the bed or the 3 hr bus ride to Clearwater stiffened his back or something. Who knows? I am zero concerned about Gibson. It will all play out...
