Does Ted Simmons induction into the HOF basically make Mauer a sure thing?

Ted Simmons was inducted into the Hall of Fame via the "Modern Era" route.

 

He had a long career with roughly 2000 more PAs than Mauer, but the only places he really bettered Mauer were All-Star appearances and some counting stats.  He did have more power (or at least utilized his power more), but his career OPS is about 40 points lower than Mauer.  He also never won any Gold Gloves, MVPs or batting titles.  Like Mauer, he retired without a World Series ring.

 

Being a Midwest guy, I've heard many calling for Simmons to get the call for awhile. It was usually along with Ron Santo who finally did make it in 2012.  It's probably deserved, but I'd group him in there with Harold Baines.  If these guys are getting in, Mauer shouldn't have much of a problem.
