I don't understand what you mean... they just called Smeltzer up and he's thrown 5 scoreless innings, what good would "letting him get settled" do?

Multiple posters have said that it's not fair to a pitcher to ask them to pitch if they've flown in recently. Irresponsible, even.

Apparently it takes several days of settling in before a guy can be expected to do his job.

So, I'm saying, if Smeltzer is this good after having just flown in to town, imagine how good he would be if Rocco let him settle in before throwing him to the wolves?

The “book” says you take him out before he has a chance to lose the game.

At one point, the "book" (written by Jack Morris) said, "You're in the bullpen because you're not good enough to start."

So can Smelzer replace Perez in the rotation now? When Pineda gets back, can we go with Berrios, Odorizzi, Gibby, Pineda and Smelzer the rest of the way? I've seen enough of Perez to know exactly what we've got - and I've seen enough of Smelzer to trust that he's an upgrade.

I know you're being snarky, but Smeltzer flew in yesterday so you have a moot point.

So do you save Romo and Rogers for Atlanta by bringing in Harper and May to close it out?

No. You gotta win the game your are in position to win. What happens if you throw Harper and May today, and they give up the lead and you lose, and then tomorrow you find yourself down? Then you saved them for nothing.

Lately, it seems he's easily overpowered by anything 92 or higher.

I'll take Comments that Aged Well for $400, Alex.

I agree.

Of course, the plan could change with a few more bombas.
