nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 There were quite a few choices that went away from conventional rankings. While I might not agree with some of them, I like that it isn't conforming to the other rankings. I think these rankings tend to have a lot of group think input: 'I'm not really a fan of Thorpe, but everyone else has him in the top 10 so I'll be bold and only put him at 14.' Not this one, and I like it. Not Thorpe's ranking, just the process of the ranking.
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 Definitely some strange inclusions and Thorpe and Jeffers being that low is unusual.

Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 Never heard of Sands or Widdell before. But it’s nice to see an alternative list from a fresh perspective... also funny to see Granite on the list. Sands was their 5th round pick this year out of Florida State. They determined he had thrown enough innings so he didn''t pitch this summer. RHP Widell was their 7th (I think) round pick the year before. He was probably going to go to Cedar Rapids, but he came down with mono, and as he was about to start pitching again, he got it again. Hopes to be ready. LHP. Injury is a tough thing to quantify on prospect lists. I mean, he didn't' get worse from a year earlier when he was in most people's upper teens and low 20s, but he is a year older. He dove for a ball late in spring training and messed up his non-throwing shoulder. He played some, but the pain was just too much. He''s still the same player, so when healthy, we should expect him to get back to his 2017 numbers. That said, the injury may have cost him some opportunity, with Jake Cave playing so well. So, he's' not in my Top 30, but he shouldn't just be forgotten or thought of any less.
