Each MLB team's best rookie in 2018

Did we blow it or are these flukes?

Flukes. The only one I question is Rodriguez. Neither of the other is going to help a team WIN, imo.

 

Do the Twins trade for Cave if they keep Palka? Does Adrianza make the roster if Goodrum does? I'd much rather have Cave at this point, much.

I think it's a strike against the FO that they let some of this talent go without anything back. I don't really worry about Palka b/c we had good OF depth and he really wouldn't fit but Goodrum was a second round pick we invested years in and finally cracked through. Maybe we should have given him more time. And Rodriquez boggles me. I don't know how we let a ML starter get away for free.

I think these three players are casualties of the new front office not seeing their value.

 

I was always skeptical of Palka, but seeing as he was in the system why would they just waive him. His power potential was never in question.

 

Rodriguez's velocity is below average but he seems to be able to place the ball wherever he wants. I don't know how an organization misses that, unless they are just looking at spreadsheets. He is built like a tank and if he remains productive he will be around for a long time. He probably won't be a star but he will more than earn his $ in the majors.

 

Goodrum looks like a serviceable utility player, but the Twins have been blessed in that department for a while. The Twins didn't give him a chance in any case. He only started 3 games for the Twins and otherwise rode the pine for a month and worked as a late innings defensive subsitution (Molitor-Style).

Well, the old FO didn't believe in Palka either....and he can't field at all.

 

Who would you take off this roster, and keep over Palka (before the year starts)? No one. Not one player.

Goodrum looks like a serviceable utility player

... if you value bat over glove. He flunked the eye test for me last year, this year's bWAR or fWAR for defense isn't favorable. IMO he looks better on first glance than he really is.

 

He could improve.
