Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted August 16, 2018 Posted August 16, 2018 Has been been any studies about players that drop down that far in the rankings (without injuries) and still turn out?Again I like him and hope he ends up being an all star, but it seems worrisome that he probably will he will be moved down the Twins list by recently drafted player(s) and others that have been in the system. I mean, if Nick Gordon ranks #10 in the Twins system, Twins fans should be thrilled about the system. That said, I never think it's fair to expect All Star appearances for any prospect. That might be the ceiling, but a more likely scenario might be that he's "just" a solid MLB second baseman for a bunch of years... and that's pretty OK too. Not a transformational player, but a real solid player is good too. Tomj14 and Squirrel 2

Yet in the aggregate, someone needs to come through big-time, several actually, or you never have a serious pennant contender. And where else do you look for those, than guys drafted near the top? It kind of comes with the territory for those guys.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted August 16, 2018 Posted August 16, 2018 It would be threading quite the needle to trade a prospect exactly when you determine that he can't succeed but other teams' scouts are still in the dark. And the PR effect of trading a former #1 pick who is seemingly on track for the majors would have to be taken into account too. You can't trade him and then immediately crow about how you snookered the other team.Well, shortstop was not an organizational weakness last winter. There was a credible report that Pittsburgh was asking for Gordon as part of the Gerrit Cole negotiation. I don't think that would have been a PR disaster.

Like I said, "taken into account."
