Who should we buy?

If we're buyers and trade for rentals this season, I am going to lose my mind. Maybe, maaaybe we scrape our way into a playoff spot, but we're going to get massacred from there. Our bullpen is garbage and there is no way they could survive a playoffs run against nothing but teams that are significantly better than us. We're 48-53 even WITH this hot run we've been on. Being buyers because of a short hot stretch when you still aren't even sniffing .500 is ridiculous.

Edit: Also, Polanco can't play in the playoffs. Adrianza as our starting shortstop? Escobar at short and hope Sano has learned to hit MLB pitching again? Trade prospects for a rental shortstop or 3b?

I think we have three or four games to decide. We would probably have to win all of them or maybe we can loose 1 at most. So we would be right around .500 at that point.

But the other important fact is we are trending up.

Sano is closer to returning

So is Reed.

Cave, Polanco, Grossman, and Garver have been good lately as well.

While I agree that its good that Sano and Reed are closer to returning, I also am hesitant to have high expectations of them performing well. This isn't two guys that were playing great and then went down with a minor injury and are coming back off the DL. This is a relief pitcher with an ERA that is almost at 5, FIP that is over 5, a WHIP that is almost 1.45, and the lowest ERA+ of his career. He certainly has the previous track record of being a good pitcher, but I'm not banking on him being a guaranteed upgrade to our pen. And as far as Sano goes, the guy was so bad he got sent straight to high A ball. Once again, we know the man has the potential to mash but I can't be confident that him returning will be any upgrade to our lineup either.

Polanco has a .714 OPS and Adrianza is at .717 so no drop off there.

I'm not sure I trust either of those numbers over the long/short run......but I do trust Adrianza more than I expected, so who knows.

Of course, there is no depth w/o them both.

Well i guess this thread can be put to rest. Escobar just traded to AZ. I get selling when we are 10 games back but i really hate this give up mentality when we are 7 and still have a remote shot. There is no entertainment value in giving up.

The Mariners Ryon Healy for Morrison and Lynn. We'd have to pay some of their salary I'd guess. With Cano coming back in a couple weeks and supposedly playing him at 1B. They'd have an extra 1st baseman. We need to clear out a starting spot in our rotation for the Rochester shuffle and get a 1st baseman we'd have multiple years of control who is a clear upgrade(this year) over Morrison. also Morrison can play 1b if the Mariners make the playoffs(Cano won't be able to due to his suspension)
