Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 Jake Reed http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/images/players/head_shot/596082.jpg Position: WR for the Minnesota Vikings AWESOME RP prospect we've heard about for 3 4 yearsB/T: R/RHeight: 6'2"Weight: 190 lbsBirthday: September 29, 1992 AGE: 25Drafted in the 5th round back in 2014 from Oregon Starting the year in AAA working high leverage innings and proving he deserves a 40 man roster spot. Does it feel hot in here? Or maybe I'm just feeling the HEAT from Jake Reed's fastball... Since I've been on this website, Reed has been a name thrown out there as a near-ready reinforcement for the big league club. Maybe the 2nd 3rd year is the charm for this former college starter. Reed unleashes a mid-90's fastball with movement, along with a slider that the New York Times states is "Devastating". 2017 was an interesting ride for Jake. After missing the first 6 weeks of the season with an elbow issue, and a brief rehab assignment in AA, he returned to Rochester where he continued what he does best. He finished 2017 with these stats:27 appearances - 38 IP - 2-0 record - 2.13 ERA - 1.18 WHIP - 6 saves - 33 K - 17 BB - .211 BAA The weird thing about him in 2017 is he never pitched in back to back games. In fact, it appeared to be planned that he pitched once every 3-4 days. At the end of the season I wasn't sure if he would be added to the 40 man roster, and he didn't. With the additions of Addison Reed and Fernando Rodney, the path isn't as clear as it was last year to make an impact on the MLB team. However, an injury or 2, or just flat out dealing in AAA should help his case. Now, here are some fun videos! Here's a video of Reed uncorking some pitches during his rehab assignment in the GCL last season. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtPQJ95_Tz8Jake also got married over the off-season!https://twitter.com/JakeyReed5/status/949125393193213952If you're a Twitter person, follow him here.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2018 Author Posted April 29, 2018 The injury bug continues to follow Jake Reed... goulik Verified Member Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 This sucks, dang it!!I was hoping this was the year we saw him sooner than later get that call up.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2018 Author Posted May 15, 2018 Jake Reed was recently activated from the DL. It'll be interesting to see if he's on a pitching schedule similar to last season (once every 2-3 games, never back to back).
Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2018 Posted May 15, 2018 One of the things that needs to be mentioned regarding Jake Reed: Based on personal observations the last STs from the way he has been interacting with more junior pitchers and the way he was trying to mentor them, (and some other things I am not going to mention), he is one of the nicest people in the Twins organization and credit should go where there is due.
