gopherman23 Provisional Member Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 Only two issues I have is Lamonte Wade being too low and also Gonsalves' ranking. The only two guys who have arguments to be rated higher than Gonsalves are Gordon and Romero. So with that, he should be ranked no lower than #3. Can't see how Jay can be ranked higher than Gonsalves when he is younger and has outpreformed Jay at both A+ and AA. Not to mention the fact Jay hasn't even pitched more than 84 innings in a season.

Ceiling. And stuff that gives that ceiling. Gonsalves' ceiling is a 4-5 starter in the majors, Romero's and Jay's is top of the rotation starters. Gonsalves has been a pro 4 seasons, Jay just 2. Takes time. Gonsalves is the 3rd best starter in the system. The places that have him ranked higher than Jay and Romero are because they are not convinced that they will be starters. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt one more season, thus the relative ranking. I had Wade at 22. Fangraphs had him at 20. The issue with Wade is that at this point looks like a reserve corner OF. Need to see a bit more of him. He could be the next Matt Lawton, but I am not sure that I will bet on it. Yet. Might jump next season with success at AA. We shall see.
Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 I have also been higher on Vielma than most but your write up makes it sound like even I am a little lower than I should be. I am all about having star defense at SS before star offense. Good defense can make average pitchers look better than they actually are. One reason I was rooting for a Dozier trade was Polanco to second, and Vielma getting a shot sooner than later. Especially with Gordon behind him. Cannot argue with any of that. Actually I want to see him at AAA until they trade Dozier and see them try to quit switch hitting.

Not even close, and he's got 9 whole games of professional baseball under his wings. For me, Javier was ranked 7th or 8th. But based on ceiling alone, Javier might have the highest.

nytwinsfan Provisional Member Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 As always Thrylos, I don't agree with everything in your lists, but I appreciate the obviously large amount of analysis and effort that goes into it, and the fact that you always bring prospects I have heard little or nothing about to light.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Agreed, great list and amount of work, thankyou.
mlhouse Verified Member Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Part of the problem with these types of rankings is that sometimes your rankings means you cannot believe your copy. The Official (Editorial) #1 Twins Daily Prospect is Romero. While his injury issues can make that a questionable choice, if he has a 95-97 fastball with nasty sink, a PLUS PLUS slider at 88-92, and an average changeup.....and you believe this claim there is ZERO way Wander Javier can be your #1 ranked prospect. I have also seen the video of Javier and his swing is very off balance. He has a lot of adjustments he is going to have to make before he is going to be able to even come close to advanced pitching. I think the physcial toolset is there for him, tha the can project to be a hitter you can play at SS (but will be below average) but he has a long ways to go.
