alarp33 Provisional Member Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 Whether they use it or not it does give an exemplar of what 9 million dollars buys.To win this trade the Twins need to get more value out of the 9 million and Busenitz than the Angels get from Meyer and Nolasco's 2017. More than the Angels get from Nolasco's 2017, and Meyer's 6 years of team control.
Monkeypaws Verified Member Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 I watched a bit of today's game - Santiago has a funky delivery, and good lefty junk stuff. He got lit up by Santana, but apart from that one pitch, I thought he looked pretty good. Odds are the trade will be a wash, but having one less obscenely overpaid vet on the roster does the team some psychological good, even if they pay Ricky some more on down the line. Meyer will need to have a revelation of significant magnitude for me to feel anything but happy about this trade.
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 I guess it was a good day for a fire. I still feel this acquisition is a big so what. No upgrade. Nothing worse.
Dantes929 Verified Member Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 While I liked Milone and didn't really care for Nolasco replacing them both with Berrios and Santiago has to be viewed as a plus. Of course the way the Twins have been hitting the pitchers just have to keep the other team in single digits.I apologize to all Twins fans for jinxing the Twins with the above statement. ashbury 1

tobi0040 Verified Member Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 Regarding if they spend the money or not, it comes down to the GM. If we do the right thing and hire a competitive, young, bright GM and give that person some control I would expect they get at least the same payroll as this year. That means this person may have $20m to spend, maybe more depending on who is brought back and what the decision is regarding Dozier/Ervin.
