Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 Does this team really want to go into 2016 not knowing what they have in Polanco AND having to keep him on the 25-man? Do we really want to do that again?I generally agree with you, but like Arcia on the bench -- maybe the team believes it already knows what they have in Polanco? And they are comfortable with him competing for a starting spot next spring, regardless of whether he plays in MLB or AAA right now? Of course, if that was really true, you'd think they would give him more reps at 3B and SS right now, even in AAA, since it appears those would be the more likely open positions than 2B next spring. Dozier is the only infielder (not counting 1B) with a guaranteed contract for 2017.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 I don't get the hate for "pull happy" Dozier. He's missing some of the pitches he crushed in the past, that's the problem. He was an all star as a pull hitter. That's not the problem. If only using half the field was a disqualifier, why don't people jump on Mauer? Hell, Ted Williams. I'd say people have jumped on Mauer going on five years now. Ted Williams was great, but perhaps he wouldn't have been nearly as great had the other teams had detailed scouting reports and player specific shifts back then. I like pull hitters, but the other teams have been attacking him different and it hasn't been working for nearly a year now.
