Twins Daily Midseason Top Twins Prospect Vote

Recommended Posts

Last week, I posted my updated Midseason Top 40 Twins Prospect rankings here on Twins Daily.

The Top 10 came out last Thursday.

That morning, I posted a Twitter poll, asking who the Twins top prospect was... Here were the results.

I'd like to continue this ranking using the Twins Daily Twitter account as the place to vote. Each vote will be 24 hours in length, and we'll just keep voting. I'll use my personal rankings to determine which four prospects should be included in the next round of voting, though I certainly encourage you to let me know if others should be included instead. Let's have some fun with this and see how many Twins prospects we can rank. I'll update our rankings in this document and I'll include the Twitter link for each round in the forum below.

Twins Daily Voters Top Twins Prospect rankings:

#1 - Jose Berrios - RHP

#2 - Max Kepler - OF

#3 - Tyler Jay - LHP

#4 - Nick Gordon - SS

#5 - Stephen Gonsalves - LHP

#6 - Jorge Polanco - IF

#7 - Kohl Stewart - RHP

#8 - Daniel Palka - OF

#9 - Current Vote (see below)

Although Keps' deserves to be #2 on the list, it doesn't hurt to have a walkoff game winning HR right before the vote to cement that notion in people's minds! The old "what have you done for me lately" trick.

I have him at #1 last week, so I'm OK with this. Ha!

There are 12 minutes left in the Vote for #2, but it appears it is Max Kepler in a landslide, so on to the vote for Twins Prospect #3. Who would get your vote?

With Sean Manaea "graduating", MLB Pipeline put Stephen Gonsalves at #100 in their Top 100 prospects. All four of these candidates are in their Top 100.

Tyler Jay is Prospect #3,

I guess he let the excitement of this developing poll result go to his head, because he had a tough game last night. ;)

Jorge Polanco 'wins' the Prospect #6 vote. Here is the vote for #7. Again, help me determine as well who should be added to the vote. If guys get a low percentage, I can take them out and try other names too.

Kohl Stewart was the choice for Prospect #7... let's now vote for Prospect #8... again, help me with some names.

Who else should be showing up on the ballot?

Pretty surprised about the lack of love for Polanco. As a major league ready ready bat, I don't understand why Gordon and Gonsalves are ahead of him, neither of whom have played above A+ yet nor are among the top prospects in baseball.

I will preface this with the fact that I do like Palka and his outlook, but what separates him from Adam Brett Walker? Looking below, his stats from the first half of AA and ABW2's stats from the first half of AA in 2015 are rather similar.

G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS
Palka (2016 - AA - 1st half) 66 249 35 68 12 4 16 54 31 84 5 2
Walker (2015 - AA-1st half) 66 248 46 67 17 2 19 59 19 101 2 2

Now I know that Walker both struck out and walked at a worse rate, though it wasn't too far off. Also keep in mind that Walker was a full year younger than Palka at the same level (they are roughly a week apart). I know Palka had 24 SB last year, but that has disappeared this year. My only thought it plate discipline, but as seen above they are more similar there than people realize. There is little question that the raw power Walker has is second to none. My question is why is Palka viewed as the better prospect? (yes, it's nit picking, but I think it's an interesting talker)

I would also put vielma and arruiz higher than some of these. Wander Javier is a better prospect than Palka as well

Alex Kirilloff edged Daniel Palka in the vote for Twins Prospect #8, so today, be sure to vote for Twins Prospect #9.

I added Chargois back to the vote, and added Wander Javier. We'll see how they do. Fernando Romero got minimal vote a couple times ago, so he should come back.  I'm trying to get the four guys that I think have the best shot to get votes each round, but obviously being limited to just four makes it tougher.

Here's the vote:

That's insane that Palka is that high. I'm surprised vielma hasn't cracked the list yet. He's a much better prospect than chargos. Romero too. I'd have him above wander too just because wander hasn't proven anything yet

I had Palka at 11, Vielma in the low 20s, Chargois 9 or 10. Jorge 9 or 10. Romero 7 or 8. Wander around 15. Prospect rankings don't have much to do with proving anything. It's fun to get the vote from the crowd too.

I have Palka in the 11-15 range.   Chargois slightly behind him.  Romero is probably in the 11-15 for me as well.   Wander around 15 is probably fair.  I just rate a 22 y/o in AA that's putting up good numbers and already has a major league glove higher than a 16 year old (albeit w/ good potential) that hasn't played much yet due to injury.

But then again, when Sano and Rosario were in Beloit, I told my buddy that I thought Rosario was just as valuable of a prospect as Sano as long as he could stick at 2B  :) . Rosario ended up being a much better prospect than he was at that time but obviously that was still wrong.

It is kind of hard to know where to rank Burdi at the moment. Do we have any updates on how long he is going to be out?
