Former Twin Philip Humber calls it a career

Nice little article at South Side Sox about Philip Humber.

Some prospect guys - Klaw - really hated how Rice treated Humber but he was the #3 overall pick.  Twins got him in the Santana deal.  I think he had TJ surgery in there somewhere but I can't remember.  I do remember arguing that the Twins should have tried to make him a relief pitcher but then he threw a perfect game for the White Sox so what do I know.

I always rooted for him - he seemed like a nice guy.

Looking at the Mets trade for Santana, I think the rumor was that the Twins, at that time, wanted Pelfrey. They might've also considered Gee. But ended up with Humber, and the issue there was that he was about to be out of options and become more costly in arbitration....think it was the need to keep him on the 40-man, plus lackluster stats at Rochester, that spelled his doom. Yes, he did pitch that perfect game, which made him an autograph collectors delight. Pitched in Korea last season. Wonder if Park took him long once or twice.

He had TJ midway through his first pro season in 2005, returning midway through 2006.  I think we were still looking for some "stuff" to return to him in 2008 but it never really did.

The Twins sorta tried him in relief -- he never actually started a game in MLB for us, just 13 relief appearances.

Interestingly, he had a decent season for the White Sox, and then was lousy in his perfect game season.  The perfect game was against a rather depleted Seattle lineup.
