I went to see The Jungle Book this evening. Loved the singing, as I always do. Christopher Walken singin "I Wanna Be Like You," Bill Murray (and later Dr. John and the Nite Trippers) singing "Bare Necessities" and last and best, Scarlett Johansson singing "Trust In Me" ... just fabulous. I wish Scarlett Johansson would do more singing ... love her voice. Ever since I heard her singing the main song from the documentary 'Chasing Ice' I've been a fan.

Trust In Me (from 'The Jungle Book'):

Her voice reminds me a bit of Emiliana Torrini.

I think more ... torch singer of the 1930s. That era of song, very conducive to her voice.

The beauty of music is a song can take you back to a specific point in your life that you remember fondly.. For example, this tune here:

I remember being 8 or 9 years old hearing this song. I was in the car with my dad on the way to one of my hockey games. To make the car ride more enjoyable, my dad started playing the drums on the steering wheel. I joined in with my tuned-up air guitar. It was a great moment to "jam out" with my dad.

What songs bring up great memories in your life?

My Dad was a musician and always sang to the radio in the car. There are countless songs I remember during those times in my childhood but I think the one I used to enjoy the most, and always go back to when I hear it these days is "Sir Duke" by Stevie Wonder. Lots of rocking out to that song, my kids pretend to think I'm nuts when it comes on theses days, but I think they secretly like it.

Boy, everything from Cole Porter, Louis and Ella and Duke, Big Band, Mel Torme on up through Spyro Gyra, Wynton Marsalis, Dixieland, Bennett, Connick, Afro-Cuban fusion, Diana Krall.

I guess, all of it. Comes from having a music teacher for a Mom, and a professional Jazz pianist for a Mother-in-law.

Listening to the Guns n Roses concert for a second time this week. They are playing a concert at Soldier Field and I can hear the concert from my balcony. While it's not the same as being there, glad I didn't spend the money to go hear it live because I'm hearing it live for free. So much for the ordinance that concerts conclude by 11pm at night, but whatever ... I'm not working tomorrow. But I am playing tennis at 8am.

Who's blasting Xmas music now that Thanksgiving is behind us?

One of my friends who knows I like music boxes brought me a tiny little wind up box that plays Silver Bells. It's a nice little thing to play while I lie here in boredom
