Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 If you like space-based sci-fi and/or Battlestar Galactica, this is must-see television. It's really freakin' good.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 I agree, it's excellent. Dark, realistic space opera. It's a slow build, but worth it. It took me a while to orient myself to where the action was taking place - namely different asteroids in the asteroid belt.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 I was a big BSG fan, but this one will have to wait until I can binge-stream the season, I think.

It's my preferred storytelling method in sci-fi and fantasy; drop the audience in the world and have faith they can keep up. Don't dawdle with excessive exposition of world elements and stay focused on the story. The audience will figure it out in time.

The drama and characters are good enough to keep watching, and when you begin to figure out the world and the different factions its really rewarding. As an aside, I really enjoyed the Mormonism angle. It made me smile as I figured out what exactly was going on with that faction.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 I grew up on Space Opera. Particularly Doc Smith and the Lensman series. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_opera

Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Okay, so instead I've started watching "The 100" from the beginning. A few episodes in, and want to see more. Has a nice Terra Nova vibe to it, although without the dinosaurs. At least so far.
