Trading Plouffe does not make them "sellers." It makes them a team who is trading off a surplus to make the team better in other areas. Whether or not those other areas are on the ML team right now, or pieces for a later time, or for a later trade is to be seen.  If money wasn't a thing and the Twins could just have Plouffe for the next 5-6 years, then yeah.....hang on to him, but with him starting to get paid rather well this off season and needing a multi year deal after that......they need to decide what's right to do.

Or offer him a qualifying offer in 2 years and get a draft pick.  Nobody has said that the Twins should offer him a big multi-year deal.

Good teams have surpluses of good players.  It is called depth.  Somebody gets hurt and they can put in a good player instead of Eduardo Nunez for an extended starting role.

And I must have a lot less confidence in a starting OF of Hicks, Rosario and a prospect with Vargas at DH.  There is a lot that can wrong out there.  Having Sano at DH (rotating some at 3B) is not a problem.

Here is your definitive answer:

Plouffe is the equivalent of splash, in French. Plouffe dans l'eau = splash in the water.

That's why my French wife and our son love Plouffe.

Doesn't hurt he's a good ballplayer.
