"Gemme over" game thread

Gametime Forecast: 85°F • Partly Cloudy • 0% PoP*

* - i believe that's "probability of precipitation, and isn't a statement relative to the Twins' bats.

Twins

0. Ervin Santana {R} P
1. Aaron Hicks {S} CF
2. Brian Dozier {R} 2B
3. Joe Mauer {L} DH
4. Miguel Sano {R} 3B
5. Trevor Plouffe {R} 1B
6. Eddie Rosario {L} RF
7. Eduardo Escobar {S} SS
8. Chris Herrmann {L} C
9. Shane Robinson {R} LF

Yankees

0. Nathan Eovaldi {R} P
1. Jacoby Ellsbury {L} CF
2. Brett Gardner {L} LF
3. Alex Rodriguez {R} DH
4. Carlos Beltran {S} RF
5. Greg Bird {L} 1B
6. Chase Headley {S} 3B
7. Didi Gregorius {L} SS
8. Stephen Drew {L} 2B
9. John Ryan Murphy {R} C

(Pay attention: You will be tested on this material.)

1. A bright new day, a bright new game. 0-0 is the score. Anything can happen, and probably will. Eventually.

2. Leads. We seem to have them a lot against this team. I bet we can get one again today.

3. Go Herrmann! If Santana is electric today, you gotta keep grounded.

4. No more running into outs, okay? Discretion is the better part of valor.

5. I advocate throwing ravioli instead of meatballs as get me over pitches. That way you can use cheese too.

When all's said and done, I'd rather beat the Yankees at the top of their game, but today i'm not picky. Let's be a wet puddle to their brooms, rather than a dust bunny. I'm pretty sure they didn't bring a shop vac...

And now for your Quiz:

What thought did i leave out of this intro?

What a terrific way to waste a day off.  At least I can watch it on the big screen rather than the computer.

Clearly.

Passing marks.

It reminds me of a (version of a popular) song a college friend sang...

And indeed, i found it on the interwebs, and am pleased at the author to whom it is attributed:

“Tell me why the stars do shine,
Tell me why the ivy twines,
Tell me what makes skies so blue,
And I'll tell you why I love you.

Nuclear fusion makes stars to shine,
Tropisms make the ivy twine,
Raleigh scattering make skies so blue,
Testicular hormones are why I love you. ”

― Isaac Asimov

But alas, neither explain the past 4 losses to pinstripy team...

Ah, the good Doctor A. This thread is already a winner before the game even starts. :)

I don't know if this was mentioned in yesterday's game thread, but Bert mentioned a stat yesterday that I thought was TRULY remarkable.

(I might not get the number exactly right, but it's close)

The last 18 homeruns the Twins have given up have been multi-run homeruns.

9 - Two run HR

6 - Three run HR

3 - Grand Slams

That's insane. Just let that sink in.

I blame Abner Doubleday.

Another Shane Robinson start. OHHH BOY!

It seems like Robinson is a starter now. Not sure how he earned it, maybe just by being a veteran...

I think it was 8, 6 and 4.  Only to add on to that today.  I've wasted the last couple nights watching this el foldo act so might forget this is a day game.

Oh yeah. I shoulda said it was day game too...

Passing marks.

(and yeah, i'm not going to individually hand out marks for my quiz. Suffice it to say "you've all done very well" ala Mr. Grace from are you being served?)

WOOHOO...out of the 1st without allowing any runs or an A-Bomb from A-Fraud.

Now if we can just get 8 more innings of that.

A-Roid is the absolute worst. If he were to get hit by a bus, say, between first and second base, I don't think I'd ask for an inquest.

I would wonder who's driving the bus. In fact i wonder it even when it doesn't happen.

Which Twins is gonna be doin' donuts on the field today?

The Yankees have been, are, and always will be the literal manifestation of everything wrong.

Just another thing in the long list of hates about the stupid Yankees -- that dumb whistling sound after every opponent strikeout.  I have a bad feeling we'll be hearing a lot more of it today.

gotta love .193 hitter Stephen drew leading off with a single.

chances of the twins being no hit or perfected: 60%

So when they've retired all of the Yankoffs' numbers from 1-99, which I guess will probably happen within a year or two, can we just retire the entire team?

...Andy Pettite!? Really?

Brian Dozier? He looks a bit shifty.

I think they can make buses with automatic transmissions too...

Not 100% sure, but i expect so. Not everyone needs to know how to double clutch, do they?

He's BELOVED in NY. I would have more an issue with Posada's # being retired. He just happened to be the catcher when the Yankees assembled their all star rotation every year.

This hurts my head. What if this isn't entirely right? Does that mean the Yankees manifest this?
