International signing period thread

It's not just affording the 30M for amateur talent, it's also paying the 30M in penalties. ie what happened with the BoSox signing Moncada. So not only paying the player but paying the league for your gamble on a 19yo Cuban.

The Yankees' $30 mil figure already included the penalties.

Ben Badler writes some quick notes on my hope for the Twins next year. Stars are kind of alining for them to go big:

Money quote:

It’s why some teams are already thinking about blowing out their bonus pool next year. The Braves seem determined to do so, with talk that the Nationals, Rangers, Twins and Padres could take the same approach.

I thought they were over this year.......w/o a trade, and that's with only signing 1 player.....

They are within 5% at least, right?

I've seen both on this thread....that they are, and are not. but you'd expect a few more "cheap" signings, which would surely nudge them over, unless I'm misunderstanding something.....which is not unlikely.

Signings of $10k or less don't count against the pool, and I have also read that the six highest bonuses of $50k or less also don't count to the pool (though I can't find if this still applies or was only an initial year thing).  All in this year on one guy for signings of any real amount if they can't acquire any more pool space.

The six signings at 50k was replaced this year by unlimited signings under 10k.

They are currently 1.3% over without any trades, which leaves them with just under 150k before the penalties start to kick in.

I hope they make a trade still, but it doesn't make sense if there isn't an international prospect that they like more than the prospect that they have to trade away.

So it looks like the Twins aren't going after other lesser prospects in this signing period and are determined to stay under the limit.  I don't have problems with that and waiting to go over makes sense since 8-10 teams will be out next year and the Twins bonus pool amount will be greatly reduced by their better record.  You could make an argument for going over recently but it is hard to take that stance when the Twins have had one of the largest bonus pools and still have been able to load up.  Next year (and hopefully the following years) that won't be the case.
