Kirby_waved_at_me Verified Member Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 I think the team was hoping for more than the other KBO pitcher received from the Padres, which was in the neighborhood of $2MM - they must have thought that the league's top performing pitcher would earn a higher bid, but it didn't turn out that way.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Well, another reason for teams not to share their bids with each other prematurely -- they might wind up bidding on the same player again later!

And it wasn't perfectly clear that he was the top performing pitcher, Yang had a better K rate and WHIP in 2014, but Kim's ERA was a full run lower. Yang and Kim have come up together, same age, both LH. Kim's career ERA is a full earned run lower, with similar peripherals elsewhere.
Kirby_waved_at_me Verified Member Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 "Top performing pitcher" from the KIA Tigers' perspective I should have said - that's a good point. I think the market showed what MLB teams felt these two pitchers were going to be worth.
ashbury Verified Member Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 According to the Kia Tigers, everyone is a loser:One infraction point to the Kia Tigers for posting without respect for others. USAFChief 1
jokin Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 One infraction point to the Kia Tigers for posting without respect for others. I thin the Tigers think that both the Twins and Rangers "posted" without respect for Yang. USAFChief and ashbury 2
