Robin Yount?

Here in the Big Red state, Omaha in particular, where I call home, we're blessed with some very well respected journalists and well regarded sports talk shows. And many of said journalists have pretty good connections. A couple days ago, there was a fairly bland comment in regard to Molitor soon being named manager of the Twins.

 

Now, this comment was made somewhat flippant, and, of course, we really don't know what the final decision will ultimately be. But the comment was made with the caveat that it could be expected for Robin Yount to be named to the coaching staff soon after.

 

Now, this may not be earth-shattering news, and Molitor may NOT ultimately be the Twins managerial choice. But I found the Yount reference interesting. And honestly, I had never considered him as a candidate for the staff. But I felt obliged to share these comments and toss them out there for consideration. FWIW.

He's been a coach in the big leagues for quite a long time, so it does make some sense.  I don't know how much he's done, or what he believes in or his style or anything.  Probably would be the bench coach, unless Steinbach is. But he'd be somewhere in there.

With all of the years they played together, I always assumed that Yount would be a part of a Molitor regime.  See Gardy + Anderson - roomates throughout the minors.  And maybe a Rollie Fingers or Gorman Thomas or Ben Ogilvie or Jim Gantner.

 

I think that Bruno, Steiny and Cuellar will be retained on the new staff in some capacity.  The rest will be new.

Ryan has stated that the FO would have a say in the coaching staff, it wouldn't be solely up to the manager to pick his crew.
