TRex Provisional Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Any chance the TD community could cobble together a quick profile for Newcomb?
cgreuling Verified Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Kolek just flat out scares me. When's the last time a high school pitcher who throws 100 made it out of A ball? I hope they stay away from him...
diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Here is my board: 1. Aiken 2. Rodon 3. Jackson 4. Kolek, and 5. Newcomb. I'd probably sub Touki for Newcomb, but that's pretty good. Sadly, I think the Twins are pretty high on Gordon. Not my first choice here.

Not my first choice here. I have Touki #6. very close to Newcomb. Touki is 17, 94-95 fb, best curve in the draft. Some command/raw concerns. I prefer Newcomb slightly because he is 3 inches taller, a lefty, and more velo on the fb even though his slider is not rated quite as high as Touki's curve. He is 3 years older though and I would like the approach if we took either.

Felix Hernandez (not drafted but threw hard at 18), Josh Beckett, Jose Fernandez
twinsfan34 Provisional Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Keith Law has this...Twins taking Gordon...Analysis: This is the lock of the draft. Unless Brady Aiken gets here, which he won't, they're taking Gordon. And that's with Koleck still available...
twinsfan34 Provisional Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Now this just in the chat... [h=6]Klaw (1:44 PM)[/h] I think I answered this earlier, but I did hear this afternoon that the Twins could switch to Kolek from Gordon if both are there - I don't believe that they WILL, but that it's not a slam-dunk as I indicated in the mock.
B Richard Provisional Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Have to admit, Kolek makes me a little bit nervous. I have heard virtually nothing regarding his secondary pitches and command. For me personally, I'd rather have Stewart than Kolek if the former were in this year's draft. Jackson is the guy I would love to pick and keep behind the plate. Power+hit tool+ not a butcher behind the plate... sounds tantalizing. Unfortunately, I would really be surprised if he dropped to us at 5.
