Why is Yunior Severino getting no love?

Twins Video

Yunior Severino has been in Triple-A for part of 2023, and all of 2024. He started 2025 in St. Paul. He was the Minor League Player of The Year in 2023 clubbing 35 homeruns in both Double-A Wichita and Triple-A St. Paul, and then followed that up with 21 homeruns last year strictly in Triple-A St. Paul.

He does strike out a lot but has managed to maintain a career .266 batting average and has major power potential. He was once a top-30 prospect but has now completely dropped off. Anyone know what has happened to him? He can play corner infield, mostly first base. Seems like there's no trust.

Severino is a DH. The team is already loaded with DH names and Severino doesn't make much contact against the better pitchers. Yunior seems like a fun guy but he is pretty much a AAA player. My guess.

Yet, Mickey Gasper?

Gasper is also a AAA player, but his ability to play multiple positions is a factor over Severino. Not that he's good at any of those positions, mind you.

Severino was a free agent this winter, not even Rule 5. Any team could have picked him up. I believe Severino thought there was a path to MLB with the Twins at 1B. Thus far, France has closed that door.

Gasper is  non-entity and TC is giving him starts and DH ABs.

Just saying.
