Twins 2013 mock MLB Draft: Rounds 6 to 12

Originally posted at The Tenth Inning Stretch ---   I started the Twins mock 2013 draft a week ago, suggesting that they should select Sean Manaea with their first round and fourth overall pick. A couple days ago I presented the second to fifth round picks for the Twins in this mock draft, and now I am concluding with picks from the 6th to the 12 round.     As I indicated in the first pick presentation, like every single other mock drafts out there, unless someone can see all the draft bo

Monday Morning Madness

Originally posted at Kevin Slowey was Framed! The Twins lost three of four from the Tigers this weekend and have now lost eleven of their last twelve. Yikes. After flirting with .500 through six weeks, the Twins now have the second worst record in the American League. The Twins are 11th in runs scored and 11th in runs allowed. Bad combo, bro. The dream has died, as this team doesn't appear to have the talent to hover at .500 for a full season.   The Front Office had a busy week too. Here i

Dimly Aware in Detroit: Twins at Tigers (Games 44-46)

Twins at Tigers   10 Pins Fall Down (Game 44)   I asked the score if I should watch the Twins game. The score said no, and I had no regrets about spending some time with my wife, my friend, and an awful movie called The Greenskeeper.   The formerly infamous John Rocker, pitcher, played the killer.   It’s on Netflix.   In the ninth inning, we watched our phones to make sure the Twins avoided getting no-hit.   Following a baseball team has very few real-life side effects. Getting no-hit can really

Twins Minor League Report (5/26): Arcia Hurt

After ending their 11 game losing streak on Saturday, the Twins couldn't make it two wins in a row. The Tigers offense pounced on Mike Pelfrey for five runs on five hits in less than six innings of work. The offense didn't help him out much with three hits and a single run on the board.   There were a few different story lines to follow in the minors so let's see what went down!   Originally posted at http://www.NoDakTwinsFan.com   Rochester Red Wings 2, Charlotte Knights 3 Box Score Rochester

Twins Top Prospects

Here are my rankings for the players in the Twins minor league system. Talent and positional value are the biggest factors, while age and league are minor factors. In addition, draft position and size also have some impact. Normally I'd like to use 50, but after 35 I didn't think there were enough worthy of even being considered a prospect. Recently departed Joe Benson is off and so is Aaron Hicks after reaching the 130 AB benchmark. Hope you enjoy and possibly learn a new name!   1. Byron Buxto

Born and raised in Detroit, Altobelli signed with Cleveland as a free agent in 1951. He had decent but unspectacular numbers in the minors, but he certainly was there a long time; Joe Altobelli played all or part of thirteen seasons at AAA. The best of those seasons were 1960, when he hit .255 with 31 h

All the Right Moves?

After a period of stability, the Twins have made a rash of moves. Many of the moves have been panned by the denizens of Twins Daily for being shortsighted, cheap, stupid or all of the above. Some are calling out the GM for saying the team was trying to compete when, in fact, they are rebuilding and focusing on next year or the year after.   News flash! The team isn't going to contend this year. Ryan's "contention" talk was predicated on miraculous performances by pitchers who have been much

Joe Benson: Not a Twin

Originally posted at Kevin Slowey was Framed!   I had intended to run some errands this afternoon, but then I saw this tweet:   Joe Benson is a member of the Texas Rangers organization... — Seth Stohs (@SethTweets) May 25, 2013   I was confused, but I knew this was an option. The Twins needed a 40-man spot for the immortal P.J. Walters, and Benson has been injured or terrible ever since his 2011 September call-up. Even in earning his 2011 promotion, he had basically played two full seasons a

Twins 2013 mock MLB Draft: Rounds 2 to 5

The Unfortunate end of Oswaldo Arica

All good things must come to a end. Oswaldo Arcia has been demoted back down to AAA today, after the one-hitter thrown by Anaibal Sanchez. During his a little over a months stay in the Major leagues, he hit .263 an OPS. Of .372 (4th best on the team might i add) along with 4 home runs and 14 RBIs. Much better then any other Twins rookie or second year player.     Yet he gets demoted back down to the minors only because the Twins are in desperate need of pitching. In which P.J. After consecutive 95+ loss seasons where the Twins were easily one of the worst teams in either league, they break out a (current) 10-game losing streak in May of 2013, one in which they are repeatedly pummeled early in the game. An announcer said not only have the Twins allowed the most runs in the 1st inning, but that the runs allowed in the 1st are the most runs allowed in any inning by any team in baseball in 2013. Think about that: right when you take the field to get a good start, you p

Weekly Links-N-Thinks

It was a rough week for the Twins with nine straight losses. The club hasn't won a game since May 13th. Two fifths of the starting rotation was replaced including sending down Opening Day starter Vance Worley. Even on a night where Josh Willingham hits two home runs, the club still can't find a way to win.   Minnesota does have two of the best team's in all of the minor leagues. This can make it fun to dream about the future. Miguel Sano and Byron Buxton could turn into monster MLB players. The
