For the past 15 years, calling the Minnesota Twins middle infield a "revolving door" would be an understatement. However, the Twins currently possess a rising star at second base as well as a top prospect who will most likely be ready to compete in 2015. In the near future, the Twins are going to have to make a decision regarding the 2nd base position for the future. The question that Twins fans everywhere are asking is, "will it be Dozier or Rosario?" It will be an interesting decision that w

In most science fiction shows I have seen, somebody is in stasis (I hope I spelled it right and I am using it correctly). That means that the person or creature in question is in an unchanged state as time goes by. It is my opinion that the Twins basically spent 2013 in stasis. I expected at the start of 2013 the Twins would move some veterans, find out about some prospective regulars and start in the development of a starting rotation. None of that happened. almost all of what was unset
This is the second in a series of three articles evaluating the Twins 2013 Season. First we introduced the stat, now we're using it to analyze hitters, finally we'll use it to analyze pitchers. Anyone can evaluate a player's performance in the field, but what about their performance in the field of entertainment? The Twins completed their third straight 90-loss season, but rather than chastise the unproductive and cheer the talented, I'm here to praise the players who made it fun to watch ga
As part of the Twins Daily preseason preview, I took an in-depth look at Chris Parmelee and Trevor Plouffe as they headed into the 2013 season. Going into the season, both former first round draft picks figured to get extended playing time. The hope for Twins fans was for each of these players to show some of the potential they had shown while playing at the Triple-A level. Plouffe showed some impressive power in 2012 with 24 home runs and 19 doubles. He had a career high .756 OPS and it looke
So that’s why Glen Perkins threw so badly in the latter stages of the season. Twins insiders revealed yesterday our closer underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on 1 October to fix medial meniscus in his right knee, an issue that had been troubling the 30-year-old for some time. Thankfully, it appears no lasting damage was caused from two months of pitching through the pain and since the surgery Perkins revealed he has felt fine. But it is nevertheless a concern for MLB betting fans on bet365, f
This is the first in a series of three articles evaluating the Twins 2013 Season. First we introduce the stat, then we use it to analyze hitters, then we use it to analyze pitchers. There's plenty of time to dissect the Twins' season, and there are plenty of people to do it. Rather than crunch the numbers or analyze the trends, I prefer to dissect it in the best way I know how: poorly! It's in that spirit that I offer the following new statistic: AARP or Amusement Above Replacement Player. [I am
One of the questions facing the Minnesota Twins and their fans this offseason is the future of Joe Mauer. The All-Star catcher and face of the franchise didn't play a game after August 19th because of concussion related symptoms. With the Twins heading for their third straight 90-loss season, there was no need to rush Mauer back to the field. When the Twins head to Florida this spring, there will continue to be questions about how much time Mauer should play at catcher. Catchers are in the lin

I just saw a youtube highlight video of Adam Brett Walker with the Kernels. The first short clip is an advertisement for the Kernels (be patient) and then there are 27 or 29 short highlight clips (15 - 30 seconds each) from just the Kernels home games in CR. He truly does have incredible power. Each HR must have been over 400 feet. Must see TV. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=adam+brett+walker+kernel+highlights&oq=adam+brett+walker+kernel+highlights&gs_l=youtube.12.
How did they do it? What were the changes? How does a team 'unload' most of it's talent and not really seem to acquire much more, yet, come out on top as it seems the Red Sox have done. The 1991 Minnesota Twins went from 'worst to first'...as did the Atlanta Braves that year. The 2012 Red Sox had: Carl Crawford ($102.5M over the next 5 yrs) Adrian Gonzalez ($127M over the next 6 yrs, Red Sox pay $3.9M/yr thru '15) Marlon Byrd Josh Beckett ($31.5M over the next 2 yrs) Kevin Youkilis ($12
Fielding Independent Pitching (FIP) measures what a player’s ERA should have looked like over a given time period, assuming that performance on balls in play and timing were league average. Fangraphs relies on FIP to calculate WAR for pitchers. Is FIP independent of the catcher? The following table shows pitching performance by catcher over the last two seasons. [TABLE=width: 500] Catcher Inn K/BB FIP Joe Mauer 1286 2.32 4.32 Ryan Doumit 865 1.65 4.78 Drew Butera 307 2.53 3.80 C
It seems a bit early for this, but I think the Twins need to be aggressive early in free agency this year. Jim Pohlad has made it clear that the bank is open if Terry Ryan decides to spend money in free agency this offseason. As John Bonnes recently wrote, the Twins could easily have $25-$30M to spend on payroll this season. Twins Daily - TwinsDaily Video: How Much Pitching Can The Twins Afford I would like to expand upon this and propose what I would like the Twins to do this offseason.
This is my first attempt at a blog entry. Thanks Twins Daily community. And yes this is a true story. It was a wonderful evening in 1987, my best friend Mark and I had been wondering the streets of Minneapolis for hours, there were hundreds of folks seemingly in the same situation as ours. We saw signs, people dressed in costumes, yelling catchy and witty lines to everyone they passed. Mark and I talked of Hrbek launching another miracle homerun in the 9th. Seeing Bert close down the Royals
Originally posted at Kevin Slowey was Framed! If you really like reviews, I did two 2013 fun stats reviews as well: Hitters. Pitchers. Fun! The 2013 regular season has ended. The AL Central has produced a team that has made it to at least the ALCS. In addition, the Indians made the Wild Card game and the Royals had a pretty decent season. The Twins and White Sox battled heroically for last place, with the White Sox emerging victorious. Prior to the season, I did some predictin'. I l
Not that I thought his 40-man roster spot was ever in doubt. But he's the best performing Twin so far in the ARZ Fall League, which started on Oct 8. Here's a story on Kepler and his performance in his last game. Here's the Twins stats - they're on the Glendale Desert Dogs.
On Saturday, Tait went 2-for-4 with a walk and his 17th double. The 19-year-old is hitting .219 with 17 doubles and 15 home runs at High-A Cedar Rapids.
