Justin Hooper-2015 MLB Draft

http://www.ibabuzz.com/prepcorner/files/2015/02/ecct0510prepround10.jpg   Justin Hooper is a tall lefty out of De La Salle High School (California) who was ranked near the top of many draft boards after his junior year, but fell significantly after the start of his senior season. Hooper has a tendency to be very wild, but has some heat, usually sitting 92-94, but can reach 97 mph and also features a hard curveball, and a changeup that needs work. His delivery is violent, throwing from a fairly l

Roaring Back To Relevance (Guest Post: @marcosMN)

In a season which began with about as many ups and downs as can be imagined, our favorite MLB team has inexplicably soared back in to relevance, at least for the time being.   The offseason was as interesting as can be expected from a Terry Ryan-led club can be. A hometown Hall-of-Famer was brought in to captain the ship. A former fan favorite was brought back to mentor many young outfield prospects, to inject some life and passion in to a decidedly mild clubhouse, and also to finish out a good

Kyle Gibson Now Looking The Part

If you asked a handful of different credible Twins sources who they were excited to see pitch coming into the 2015 Major League Baseball season, one of the most common answers would have been Kyle Gibson. The former first round pick is now 27 years old, and there were stretches that looked very promising over the course of the 2014 season. Hoping he was close to putting it together, the upcoming season provided plenty of intrigue. Now just over a month in, the former Missouri Tiger has not disap

Twins pitching incredible, why?

SInce I have been following the twins, this is the best pitching I have ever seen. I am wondering why. At this point I beieve its Neil Allen, is there another answer?   Hughes is not pitching that badly but not like last year sill his performance has been acceptable.   Gibson whoa....is he on a roll or what? Outstanding!   Pelfrey - Do we really need to talk about him? Interestingly enough on a recent Gleeman and the Geek   Episode...Gleeman and Bonnes pointed to what he believed to be sign

How/when will we get to evaluate Jorge Polanco at MLB level again?

He is only 5 moths older than Buxton. Obviously he plays a different position. He is the future of SS for the Twins right? I need some insight as to why nobody is really talking about him for a promotion or a 2nd look in the bigs. I understand his brief stint last year was out of necessity, but this guy is good, and crushing AA right now. OPS at 833. Talk it out. I will listen.

The Twins Outfield Future Begins

Last night former first round draft pick, Aaron Hicks, got the call from the Minnesota Twins. While it isn't his first rodeo in the big leagues, there's no doubt this time signifies what might be the most important. After playing 27 games at the Triple-A level and batting .336/.415/.561, Minnesota saw fit to improve their outfield by bringing Hicks back into the fold. With more weighing on Hicks this time around, there's also plenty of reason to believe things click. Although he was the 14th ove

WARNE: Pelfrey Showing Glimpses After Long Road Back From Tommy John

Frustration is a word that has followed Twins right-hander Mike Pelfrey around for a while. Whether it was how he pitched on his road back from Tommy John surgery, to the surgery itself or even just the puzzling year he had last year where he gave the team virtually nothing in terms of production, the word frustration has been on the front burner as it pertains to Pelfrey.   But don’t think for a second that the pitcher himself isn’t frustrated, too.   “That’s all I’ve ever really known is to go

How Do The Twins Manage The Current Success?

With the Minnesota Twins getting their first off day since April 23, the team is no doubt in a good spot. Owners of an 18-14 record, and finding themselves just 2.5 games back in the AL Central, the break provides a perfect opportunity to set things up going forward. With some key games upcoming, and the club looking to stay on the right side of the win column, there's a few key areas of focus for the team as the season goes on. Coming off of a 2014 season in which the Twins offense produced a t

Twins Minor League Report (5/10): Lookouts Mash With GM In Attendance

Only two of the Minnesota Twins four full-season affiliates were in action on Sunday afternoon, but there was enough offense provided for all of them by the lineup in Chattanooga lineup as they won their fourth straight game with General Manager Terry Ryan in attendance.   There was also a League ERA leader on the mound looking for his third win of the season.   Read on to find out how it all happened!     RED WINGS REPORT Rochester 1, Louisville 3 Box Score   A Rochester lineup without outfiel

Working back from injury is never easy, as Chargois found out to his detriment on his second outing.   After 23 pitches against the Tampa Yankees on April 13th, Chargois had retired one batter, acquired a 27.00 ERA, and faced his first major set back in his comeback.   Conveniently though, a comeback doesn't begin

Lineup Changes that Seem to have Worked

The Twins started playing better baseball sometime during their previous road trip. They lost two of three to a good KC club and then were shut out 2-0 by King Felix. I believe it was after Hernandez blanked the Twins that Molitor made some lineup changes. Hunter had been moved to #2 which freed Dozier to hit cleanup. BD looked lost there, Santana had drawn zero walks and was hovering near the Mendoza line and Trevor Plouffe was, at the time, easily the hottest hitter on the team. Let's loo

Michael Cederoth Embraces Change

A year ago, Cedar Rapids Kernels starting pitcher Michael Cederoth was neither a Minnesota Twins prospect, nor was he a starting pitcher. But times change.   Cederoth was wrapping up his college career at San Diego State in May of 2014, looking forward to entering the June amateur player draft and getting his professional career started. The 6’ 6” tall pitcher spent his junior season as the team's closer and his 20 saves tied the Aztecs' school record.   A year later, he's a starting pitcher in

Early Returns Show New Era With Molitor

At the end of the 2014 Major League Baseball season, and consequently the Twins fourth consecutive with 90 losses, the organization decided to relieve skipper Ron Gardenhire of his duties. After being the head of the clubhouse in Minnesota for 13 seasons, it was decided that Terry Ryan would be going a new direction. After interviewing everyone from Chip Hale to Doug Mientkiewicz, the Twins found their heir apparent in Paul Molitor. Now with his first month under his belt, it appears a new era h

How fun is this?

You guys should thank me for calling the Twins the worst team in baseball history..notice the trip they have been on ever since?   How fun is it to watch these guys?   Plouffe is playing a Gold Glove 3b, Robinson doesnt realize who he really is..Joe has come through with some clutch extra base hits...wow..   But you know what...we are winning and winning a lot...because..drum roll..our pitching..now how phenomenal is it to be able to say that?   Time for me to work my magic again..here goes..

Twins Minor League Report (5/7): Cedar Rapids Shines

The Twins survived a short start from Ricky Nolasco (four runs in five innings) and won a back and forth game against the Oakland Athletics on Thursday. The Twins scored six runs on just five hits, helped along by six walks and a pair of errors from Oakland. The victory wraps up an 8-3 homestand, including a four game sweep of the Chicago White Sox. The Twins are now 16-13 and three games over .500 for the first time since 2010.   RED WINGS REPORT   Rochester @ Indianapolis Indians Box Scor

Package Danny Santana with someone (Nolasco?) for Cole Hamels?

As much as I like Danny Santana, is it crazy to think the Twins might want to consider trading him this year? In years past, I feel like the Twins have severely missed the high point of a player's value and have had to trade at the low point, significantly diminishing the return. While I like Danny, it is logical to think he is playing at or even slightly above his potential at this point and we have other options for short currently. Escobar can handle it and Jorge Polanco is about to be knocki

Is It Time To Take The Twins Seriously?

Now into the second month of the 2015 Major League Baseball season, the Minnesota Twins have just under 30 games under their belt. Looking at the landscape of the season that is to come, they've completed roughly one-fifth of their slate, and played through the month of April against foes coming largely from the AL Central. At 15-13 as of May 6, and just 2.5 games out of first in the Central Division, things are in a good place. Now the question is, should we take this Twins team seriously? Afte

Jonathan Lucroy and the Twins-Winning now and in the Future

This was just an idea that I thought that I would put forward. I am not saying that I agree with or promote all of these ideas.   I have been thinking that if the Twins want Jonathan Lucroy they will need to trade Major League proven talent, but how do they do that and hang on to prospects when they don’t have much to offer? Today I will look at a way that they could do that. First, the Twins need to trade to the Brewers weaknesses, and one of the Brewers main needs is a third baseman since Aram

WARNE: Trevor May; A Pleasant Surprise

Trevor May’s career got off to an inauspicious start. After wearing out Triple-A pretty well — 2.85 ERA, 8.6 K/9, 1.16 WHIP — May was summoned for an Aug. 9 start last season against the A’s. May only lasted two innings, struck out none and walked seven as just 28 of his 63 pitches went for strikes.   May didn’t complete five innings until his third start, and didn’t pick up a win until his fifth. As August came to an end, May’s ERA sat at 10.42. September was markedly better — if still not perf

Is Trevor May Paving Alex Meyer's Path?

Before the 2013 Major League Baseball season, the Minnesota Twins dealt talented outfielders Denard Span and Ben Revere to new organizations. In sending Revere to the Philadelphia Phillies, Ruben Amaro gave the Twins two pitchers in return. One was a former rookie phenom in TrevVance Worley, but the bigger chip was perceived to be prospect Trevor May. With Span being dealt for Alex Meyer from the Washington Nationals organization that same summer, the two prospects would forever be linked. The b
