Twins Extended Spring Training Roster (2015)

I am not 100% certain this is a complete list of Twins minor leaguers who are remaining in Extended Spring Training, but it is pretty close.

Pitchers: Andro Cutura, Brandon Easton (LHP), Sam Gibbons, Onesimo Hernandez, Alexis Tapia
Bullpen: Jose Abreu, Josh Guyer, Kuo Hua Lo, Miles Nordgren, Callan Pearce, Brandon Poulson, Dereck Rodriguez, Jose Velez (LHP), Leonel Zazueta

Catchers: Brett Doe, Robert Molina, Gabriel Ojeda, Jarrard Poteete, Alex Real (50 games), Rainis Silva

Infielders: Jorge Andrade, Jack Barrie, Manuel Guzman, Tyler Mautner, Nelson Molina, Ariel Montesino, Jermaine Palacios, Joel Ramirez, Blake Schmit, Rafael Valera, Ruar Verkerk

Outfielders: Dubal Baez, Edgar Corcino, Tyree Davis, Austin Diemer, Frank Encarnacion, Roberto Gonzalez, Amaurys Minier

Disabled List: Onas Farfan, Zach Hayden, Tyler Stirewalt

If I were to guess which player from each grouping would be the first promoted to Cedar Rapids (or across the parking lot to Ft. Myers for a short period).

Starting Pitcher - Sam Gibbons or Brandon Easton

Relief Pitcher - Andro Cutura, Miles Nordgren, Dereck Rodriguez

Catcher - Jarrard Poteete

Infielders - Tyler Mautner or Blake Schmit

Outfielders - Austin Diemer

No Lewin Diaz?

You are right with your promotion guesses. Gibbons, Easton, and D. Rodriguez are good players who will find their way to E-town this year.

My guess is Diaz (and others from the DSL) will come over in time to play in the GCL.

Gibbons and Rodriguez played in E-Town last year. I almost expect that they will move up to Cedar Rapids bfeore the short-season starts. Easton pitched in the GCL, but he was impressive and could move up too.

C Brett Doe didn't come north to CR and I haven't seen anything about a release. Is he still in EST? If so, I would probably list him as the catcher next in line to come to CR, since he was on their ST roster right up until the last day or so.

Yeah, he was on the most recent Cedar Rapids work group, so I didn't transfer him to my EST roster. I'm guessing he's in the EST now as they always need more catchers.

Sorry, I meant Cedar Rapids not E-Town.

Also, Kuo Hua Lo has to be going to Cedar Rapids, right? He has spent three years in Rookie ball. I am kinda surprised that he isn't starting out with CR, actually. I have always liked him.

They can have a certain number of players (maybe 3-4) play four years of rookie ball, so Lo could go there.

Thanks. I did not know that. It would be a baseball death sentence for him though.

Well on the last day of spring camp 4/5, Navaretto was taking reps at first base after Kepler's near hour practice there with infield coach Perlozzo.  As for Doe, I saw him on several occasions but it seemed like they were constantly working on him with his hitting skills.  After everything I saw in camp, Jorge Fernandez looks to be the starting catcher.  Whenever there was an advanced pitcher throwing he seemed to always be the receiver whether that be Berrios or Burdi.  He has a good strong accurate arm behind the plate and is a team leader and jokester on the bench.

I hope so because Diaz and Ynoa were not in spring camp but from what I'm told will soon be making their trip to stay and train at the new Twins Complex in Fort Myers that was build for year round play and stay for the up and coming international players.  It's nice but they do charge the players for products such as toiletries, laundry, and person hygenie and it's at KOA rates.15114818590_f6cd45c483.jpg

Bob,

Thank you for the very helpful information. Jorge Fernandez is at the very top of my "breakout" list for Twins prospects that I am working on for a blog post.

Is that Twins Academy price list for real? Good god. Such weird profit minutiae involved there. Why bother with that? Fund the damn system thoroughly. That housing complex is a great start, but there are still needless worries for players. I do not understand how teams don't make sure that money is not a pressing issue for the 170+ players in the minors. This doesn't mean exorbitant salaries, just like  . . . doubling the current ones. It is indisputable that poverty is the biggest hurdle for education in America, and the same goes for baseball "education" here.

Yes the price list is for real, and a little exhorbent if you ask me but alot of these guys will just pay it because it's there and they don't have to go anywhere.  During spring training, the players are fed lunch at 11-12 daily, breakfast I'm not sure about.  I'll never forget seeing Buxton at the being of his career (this was before the Complex was built) come into the clubhouse with McDonald's Sausage and Egg McMuffin and a KickStart energy drink.

As for Fernandez, he's one of few guys I was told by staff to look out for this season as a breakout year; he's worked really hard at his game behind the plate but also in the weight room.

I had him ridiculously high in my list of high-ceiling hitters in my blog here a few weeks back. Since nobody took him in the Adopt-A-Prospect project, I grabbed him there too. Sounds like we have a cheerleader squad for him here.

Fernanadez has certainly started out like a ball of fire at the plate in CR  (5-9 w. 3 doubles).  He's listed at 6'3" 188 #s.  Is that still accurate or is he a man-child in the making?

He really showed good footwork behind the plate with a plus arm, he was constantly getting praise for his defensive work add that to his growing frame and this could be a breakoout year.  Others in camp that I was told to keep watching were pitchers Chih wei Hu, Alex Mildren, Dallas Gallant, and Stephen Gonsalves.  The catcher who got raves across the board was Stu Turner, he's got a great defensive game and his bat is starting to come around.  Everyone's pick after camp finished was Adam Brett Walker to finally turn it around and have a big push this year.  Max Murphy got a lot of love too, kid has some serious pop and works counts, contact needs work though.

That's probably accurate but from when I last saw him in Instructionals he's added 10lb of muscle mass and looks to get bigger.

I forgot to stay that Sano said keep an eye on starting pitcher Alexis Tapia, I think he might have just been building his friend up because he was right there or if he's legit.
