  1. FWIW, the 2016 AL Gold Glove first baseman was Mitch Moreland, who is now on a different team than last year. He also hasn't been nearly as good defensively as last year. The 3 previous seasons it was Eric Hosmer. He is doing well defensively. Those two are probably Mauer's competition. Per fangraphs defensive rankings, it's not close.
  2. Don't be too jealous. I live in Winona. The home of Bloedow's. If you haven't heard of Bloedow's. You don't live in Minnesota. Or Wisconsin. Or Iowa. Heading there in about half an hour.
  3. So did Slegers. Yet the decision makers decided to keep Gibson and have him start tonight instead. If the Twins lose tonight's game, it is all on Falvey. Gibson has been supposedly pitching for his job all year. He's been terrible all year other than a handful of starts. Yet for some inexplicable reason, they keep giving him the ball.
  4. If Gee and Slegers remain in, aren't there already 5? Or are you advocating removing Colon?
  5. They don't have an open spot Saturday if they allow Gee to remain in it. Slegers is scheduled to start tonight in AAA. He either makes that start and is on short rest Saturday or he doesn't make it and goes 10 days between starts. Neither is ideal. Slegers should start tonight in Chicago. It solves all the problems.
  6. Unless the thinking of the voters for gold gloves has changed, Castro has no chance. They have historically been awarded to good offensive players who are decent on defense.
  7. I still believe Slegers should start tomorrow and Gibson should be demoted to bullpen. Send Melville out. Option him. DFA him. Whatever.
  8. I would say Melville's chances of being on the roster tomorrow are pretty low. Gee may or may not remain in the rotation. I would certainly hope that Falvine understands that carving up the current White Sox lineup is substantially less of an accomplishment than pitching as well as Slegers did against the Diamondbacks. My opinion hasn't changed. Melville out. DFA, option, whatever. Bring up Slegers to start tomorrow. Gibson to the pen.
  9. It's still more pitches than he has thrown as a Twin and highest total at MLB level since June. Not that you were specifically criticising a possible move.
  10. Are you talking about a possible wild card game or a possible game 163? As I recall from previous game 163s, it's an unlimited roster (well, 40 anyway).
  11. He's no where close to Sandoval's body. Sandoval might be 10-20 pounds lighter, but he's also 6 inches shorter.
  12. Actually, it makes sense that Melville was called up with a rostered player optioned and not the 26th man. That's not the part I don't get. Theoretically, the Twins could option Melville after game one and bring up a pitcher to be available for game 2. But now they have to send Turley out after today. And like I said, no one eligible. It would have made more sense to option Pressly, who is likely unavailable today anyway and call up Boshers as the 26th man. Now, the Twins have Gibson slated to start tomorrow and will have next to no-one rested in the pen. Not ideal, to say the least. Again, my solution is to bring up Slegers to start tomorrow. That leaves Gibson available in the pen. Even today possibly.
  13. I guess I don't get that sequence of moves. Even if the Twins option Gee and/or Melville out after today (which they are almost certain to do), there is no one eligible on the 40 man to come up other than Randy Rosario and Aaron Slegers. Boshers still has 9 days and now Turley will have 10 after today. A possible move would be to bring up Slegers to start tomorrow and demote Gibson to the pen. I'm in favor of that move. Unless they phantom DL Perkins I suppose. That would allow Turley to stay up.
  14. ...they wouldn't be on the verge of chapter 11?
  15. idk, Fullmer has struggled throwing strikes at the MLB level. Like to think he is extremely beatable. Rodon will be tough, especially with no Sano. Have to think Vargas starts against him. He has a HR against Rodon. Have to like Twins chances rest of the series. Another rookie with control issues Tuesday and then struggling James Shields vs Ervin in the finale.
  16. Although, as a matter of practicality, he wouldn't be called back before Tuesday.
  17. He probably has at least one option remaining. However, given his service time, he would have to agree to it. If he were willing to do that, chances are it would have been done right away.
  18. Right about now, someone should be getting up in the pen.
  19. I will say that Perkins will face a maximum of 7 hitters. If he hasn't gotten 3 outs by then, he has to come out. Earlier if there are no outs.
  20. Wonder how long of a leash Perkins will have.
  21. I suspect Pressly is going to pitch the 9th and then be optioned out. Problematically, the only eligible pitcher on the 40 man roster is Randy Rosario, who has not been sharp lately. Could be that Michael Tonkin gets a second chance. There are currently 39 on the 40 man. But the Twins plan to bring up Melville to start tomorrow. Santiago to the 60 day still seems the most probable way to free up a spot.
  22. Watching this series, it is difficult to believe that Arizona is (was) the third best team in the NL.
  23. All it might take is a high tight one that gets an Arizona pitcher tossed. Of course, the ehection would be automatic. But I suspect he would get his money's worth.
