  1. Unless the Twins really get in a pinch for 40 man spots, I think Stewart sticks.
  2. You are conveniently ignoring that if Polanco and Sano played in the first half they take at bats away from Eduardo Escobar, one of the most productive bats the team had in the first half. Maybe Morrison sits more, but knowing MOY, my guess is no. Indeed, with out the regular playing time he was forced into, who is to say Escobar would have done as well?
  3. Aaron Slegers is unlikely to be back IMO. He hasn’t been impressive at the MLB level and he’s been outpitched by at least 4 guys currently at Rochester or above. Romero, Gonsalves, Thorpe, Littel and Mejia. Even without adding anyone, he’s 9th or 10th on the depth chart going in to 2019. Sure, you probably need that many dependable arms. But, I don’t consider Slegers a dependable arm and I suspect his spot on the 40 man will be needed by someone with a considerably brighter future. He’s not even a gimme for Rochester’s rotation.
  4. I’m not so sure Gibson’s going to get a big payday after next year, even if he does well. It might serve him to take what he can get now. Ask yourself how he stacks up with Lance Lynn, prior to this year. IMO roughly the same. One could argue Lynn was better. Gibson will be 1 1/2 years older after the 2019 season than Lynn was after 2017.
  5. Injuries are part of baseball. Any of the above players could easily get injured again - or any host of others - and the Twins have Adrianza at 3b instead of the bench. Teams that win championships have sufficient depth to overcome injuries. Sure, IF everyone stays pretty healthy and IF the younger core players step up the Twins have a chance to contend with the Indians. They are still 4-5 players short of championship contention IMO.
  6. There are 5 over 30 on the 25 man: Drake, Gibson, Wilson, Forsythe and Mauer. Reed turns 30 in December. Of course, that doesn’t count Ervin, who was just put on the DL, Matt Belisle - who is still likely to come back from the DL, Logan Morrison or Jason Castro, who obviously won’t be back this year but both are under contract or control for 2019. So, regarding Levine’s statement of “open auditions”, all I can say is “anytime now”.
  7. I imagine they made it earlier because both teams travel tonight. Granted, a relatively short trip. That said, rain is forecast from about 2 until 6 or 7. So, they may end up with a slightly delayed start.
  8. I would also agree that wins and losses take a back seat to individual performances, particularly for those that are key to 2019 and beyond.
  9. 38 games remaining. 7 against Oakland, 3 on the road. 3 against the Yankees. 3 in Houston and in Cleveland. All teams that need to win to improve their playoff chances or seeding. Even Cleveland can still catch the Astros (or whoever wins the west) and have home field for their LDS. They will be lucky to win 7 of those 16 IMO. 3 in Arlington. Never a fun place to play in the heat of summer. The Rangers have a slightly worse record than the Twins but have had a much tougher division schedule. Maybe steal one. The other 19 are division opponents behind them in the standings. So, far, they have played those teams slightly better than .500. If that continues, they could get 10 or 11 wins there. Add it up, and I get 18 or 19 wins, which would be .500 from this point out. To finish at .500 for the season, they would need to go 22-17. I could see maybe getting 20 more wins. 22 I don’t see.
  10. Michael J. Fox’s middle name is Andrew... Random fact of the day.
  11. Not going to get the call when you are all over the place.
  12. I think Molitor is older than Gardy...
  13. I don’t feel like going back and looking, but I would presume the wisdom of allowing Odorizzi to face a lineup for the third time has been discussed already. He simply shouldn’t face hitters the third time. EVER.
  14. Who you got in the 9th? Hildenberger? May? Moya? Busenitz? Reed? Drake?
  15. I think having Stewart be an opener would make more sense.
  16. I’ll be curious to hear the odds of that ball being caught.
  17. No hit. But yet another rocket.
  18. Ump is calling inside edge, but not outside.
  19. He may not get out of the first.
  20. Methinks Mr. Carpenter may not last very long. The Twins are barreling him easily.
  21. Is that Joe’s first career leadoff HR?
  22. Is it raining in Minneapolis? Why hasn’t the game started?
