  1. Seriously, how do you not walk those guys?
  2. You have to walk Brantley and Ramirez, no?
  3. Lead off man on. Top of the order up. This will make what, 12 walk off L’s right?
  4. Unless the Twins take the lead, I would expect Reed to start the 9th. To win the game, the Twins will have to protect a lead. If you already have used Reed and Rodney, who does that? Hildenberger for the third day in a row?
  5. Adrian Johnson is known to have a consistently inconsistent strike zone. He’s best known, though, for calling a ball off the bat of Carlos Beltran foul even though it appeared to kick up chalk and thus preserve Johan Santana’s no hitter with the Mets.
  6. Jorge Polanco started play today with an obp of .356. There’s plenty of reason to believe that he is capable of sustaining it. The value of Mauer’s performance to date (and basically what you are projecting from him next year) will amount to about 1 bWAR. Maybe a hair above. With the amount of money the Twins have to spend, if the FO can’t get better production than that from 1b, they should resign.
  7. Polanco is probably never going to be an MVP candidate. He’ll likely never be an all star. But he is exactly the kind of guy teams that win have on their roster.
  8. Or maybe this is his third time facing the Indians this year and they have been able to get a good read on what he is trying to do to get them out. And, quality team that they are, they made an adjustment.
  9. If Busenitz is next in line for closer, this team is in serious trouble.
  10. In this day and age, there’s no such thing as a bench “bat”. A team’s bench is reserves. A catcher, an infielder and an outfielder. That is often it for AL teams. This is why position flexibility is so important and not surprisingly, an aspect the Twins find themselves behind the curve on.
  11. For all we know the FO could be intending to bring Forsythe back.
  12. The Twins haven’t won a playoff game in 16 years. If rebuilding takes that long, you’re doing something wrong. What indications are there that this FO is committed to rebuilding? If, as you say, the Twins won’t be on the upswing for two more years, why wouldn’t they have traded Kyle Gibson - who possibly could have brought in a blue chip prospect to build around? Why are Matt Belisle, Fernando Rodney, Logan Morrison, Logan Forsythe, Jake Odorizzi and Robbie Grossman still rostered and playing (until injury sidelined some of them)? None of them figure to be around in 2020. Rebuilding to me (and to most) means tearing it all down and starting at square one. There is zero indication that this FO is committed to that nor has there been since they were hired. Indeed, their plan seems to be to tread water and be satisfied being borderline competitive in a weak division.
  13. A guy I would love to see as the next manager of the Twins: Tom Prince. I still remember YEARS ago when Kyle Lohse was a largely enigmatic suspect. There was a game he pitched and was all over the place but was getting away with it. When the Twins were hitting in like the second inning there were several TV shots of Prince right in Kyle’s face for a solid 2-3 minutes. As I recall, the result was 5 near perfect innings after that. THAT is EXACTLY the kind of guy the Twins need. A TEACHER.
  14. I doubt 18 MLB players get moved in August. That seems like a very high number.
  15. Yeah, didn’t even have time to type it out.
  16. I think I walk Lindor and take my chances with Brantley. Edit: Just for the record, I started typing this before the result popped up on gameday.
  17. This would be a good time to not have a guy hitting under .190 at bat.
  18. Right about now, I’d like to see “In play, run(s)”
  19. With the exception of Jeter, those recent Yankee greats were all still pretty good in their last 2-3 seasons. Rivera was still otherworldly.
  20. The Twins respected Mauer to the tune of $23 mil per. Over the past 5 seasons the Twins paid $ 23 mil per for mediocre (and that’s being kind) production, and a guy who didn’t play at all in what amounts to more than a season’s worth of games. Getting old sucks. Believe me, I know. But at some point, world class athletes stop being world class. Let’s for a second, look at it the other way: why would Mauer want to be a part time player? I mean, in many ways he is already. Why would he want to continue in an even more reduced role? Which is what those who think he should be back in 2019 seem to have in mind. Further, let’s play devil’s advocate and say Rooker blows up in ST and then hits .400 with 10 HR in April in AAA. Meanwhile, Joe is hitting his usual .275, no power, few RBI. Are you really prepared to let Rooker rot in AAA all year when he might be able to help win games at the MLB level?
  21. Carew made the full transition the next season. The year Harmon was in KC, Carew made 14 starts at 1b though.
