  1. It was selling high based on his time with the Twins and their control over him. Absolutely. If you have a pending free agent that you don't plan to sign long term, if he is playing well at the deadline the year before his walk year, yes that is the high point to sell. The Santana trade? Based on your logic and the post Twins career he had you might want another example. I did not like the return at the time, but Gomez for a rule 5 pick? That's not bad.
  2. People see the big star on Pressley's hat now and it clouds their vision as to who he actually was when he was with the Twins. Things are looking up his first 3 years, he was progressing, except in his 4th year in 2016 he regressed somewhat. Then he had a 4.70era and 1.5 hr/9 in 2017. What I remember was he would be blowing guys away with his fastball, then he would toss a curveball up there for some reason and watch it fly over the fence. He was frustrating, remember? He has a bounce back start to 2018 and they trade him with 1+years of control left. I think they call that selling high. Yes those 1+years after the trade he was awesome. Would be have done the same with the Twins? Unanswerable. Anything he did after that is not relevant. Let's recap. The Twins spent peanuts on a rule 5, got 4+ years of an above average reliever, flipped him at peak value for 2 prospects that it is highly probable will play many years in the bigs.
  3. If effective relievers are a dime a dozen, then we didn't lose anything either, correct?
  4. This is something Twins Daily could do on all their prospect reports. Never wanted to say anything because it's just more work.
  5. Mercedes has a sweet swing. Where are all the pitchers?
  6. One thing no one is mentioning is didn't Martin have some nagging injury? A wrist? If so that could explain the power drop similar to what we saw with Kirilloff.
  7. Sano finished out well last year, but we have all seen the peaks and valleys and those valleys are deep and lush. Sano works hard and has passion for the game and his team. He is in a prove it year and it would be unwise to do anything right now except see how he responds. If he breaks out the team is covered nicely with the option. If he tanks well it's just one year. Somewhere in between without major growth, then I would try to move him at the deadline.
  8. This would legitimize our staff and still leave plenty of opportunity for the prospects.
  9. Sign me up Tom! I always liked Odo, and thought he was a gamer. He may not have liked being skipped in the playoffs, not sure I liked that either. He would have shown up in that start. Add Snell? Yes please.
  10. I bit on your comment, chewed on it for a while, spit it out, not bad, not bad.
  11. Duluth native? I knew there was as something I liked about you. I'm a transplant from MPLS but am so enamored with Duluth I'll never move back.
  12. Yeah yeah, we get it you think they are going to lose 90 games. If I had a dollar for every time you've said that this week I could buy a beer at Target Field.
  13. Well if we gotta quibble then his official debut was 2021 since the game in 2020 was during the playoffs. I think that was stated in the article, but I'm too lazy to look.
  14. Click edit after hitting the 3 dots in the upper right corner of your comment. 99% of the comments? Well we got 17 comments and we all know the one comment you didn't like, so that would be 94.22%, just saying. Why do I mention this? No idea I must be very bored.
  15. Sorry buddy not gullible at all. How about realistic? I'm not going to whine about something that I can't control and is unlikely to change. I live in Minnesota and choose to follow the Twins. They are owned by bankers who are ruled by their budget and will run the team with a focus on being a responsible, profitable business. If I did run the team, yes I would focus on wins. As a fan it sure would be fun to follow a team like the White Sox who do spend sometimes and are aggressive at times too. Instead I choose the Twins and not to beat my head against a wall. Take a look around this site. A good portion of the fans here don't live in Minnesota. That suggests a person could follow any team they want. If you can't get over the Twins self imposed budget, follow a big spender instead, then you wouldn't have to complain.
  16. Strotman is coming off Tommy John and it is said control is the last thing to get back after rehab. That is why there is hope for a turn around.
  17. Another breath of optimism from the, I'm sure, quietly frustrated Nick Nelson! That is quite the lot of young pitching. I don't see the point in predicting 90-100 loses. There is talent here and even if they are just mediocre this year, if we get to see these pitchers it will be an interesting season.
  18. Not so sure letting Cantering pitch out of the pen means he can't start later. The guy hasn't pitched and it will be a while before he gets built up. Might be a way to ease him in this year. Thorpe has had his chance. Maybe they try him out of the pen but I don't see it happening. HIW (hope I'm wrong). Dobnak is a starter or maybe long relief, but definitely not short relief, high leverage. Not too optimistic with him, but we'll see. Normally I would say to move Jax to the pen, but this non-traditional approach could work with him. 2-3 innings. With the injuries and lack of innings pitched by our top prospects, it would be great if they got them up, worked them in shorter stints and rotated them to the Saints and back. Rotating them based on workload and performance. This would not only avoid wasting their bullets in the minors, it would also make watching even a mediocre team way more fun than the marginal veteran types.
  19. Double thumbs up on this! Calling for people to be fired is so widespread on all sports sites. Is it prudent to so casually insist on impacting others lives with a major negative event like being fired? Are those who indulge in this questionable anonymous behavior subjected to such quick trigger firings by their own bosses? Not my cuppa.
  20. Skipping free agency and going the trade route doesn't make sense to me. One way just costs money and the other doesn't improve your organization as much or at all because you must give up talent. The Maeda trade shows just how important it is to the front office to not have to spend retail on pitching. Getting great deals like Maeda's ridiculously team friendly deal, Odo's super low aquisition cost and Pineda's cheap injury impacted deals are great and everything, but are they always available? We will see. If I was running the team, I would be willing to spend retail on a top anchor for the rotation. Isn't it a competitive advantage to add talent while stockpiling talent? There is no reason you can't do that and still have a middling, say $140m, payroll. Cripes the deals for Rodriguez and Gray were pretty reasonable. Many are much higher on Stroman than me, and he did get about $22m a year, but it's only 3 years. I can understand not wanting to sign 5-6 years at $110-140m, but if you are going that route, then you better be aggressive in free agency because you are only going to have a couple of options. All that being said, we still have to wait quite a while before we can judge the Falvine off-season.
