Cody’s Top 20 Twins Prospect: 16-20
jrod23 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I have heard all too often as to how detrimental it is for the guys to have a year off from competition, and I do agree with it as far as advancement, and finishing strong in '19, putting a year of you career in the tank, etc. However, at the same time, they had a year off of competition. Anyone in sports knows what good rest, while maintaining does for the body. Many of these guys are going to be coming back stronger and feeling great. However, there will plenty of the out-of-shapers coming back as well. I'm excited to see how everyone is placed who hasn't played yet. I'm sure the GCL and FSL will be their home. I don't think there are any Tyler Jays in the 2020 draft that would go straight to High A.- 9 replies

I tend to mirror this. Especially the Kirilloff and Larnach similarities. Larnach is just bigger. Both will be very good bats in The Show. Lewis' bat has me concerned, but his leadership traits are fantastic. The only thing I'd disagree with though from the article is Kirilloff doesn't swing and miss as much as you mentioned Cody. Yes, with power may come more swings and misses, but Kirilloff's plate discipline is one of the best to come up through our system in recent years. Not Luis Arraez levels, but under 20%.

Report: Twins To Sign LHP J.A. Happ
jrod23 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Same here. I'm a big fan of Dobnak, but say he continued to trend downward, I think we'd put him in the pen w/that slider of his, and open up an opportunity for Balazovic or Duran. We're finally getting to a point where we have highly touted rookies on the cusp. They're going to take their lumps too, but we just need to let them grow, as we did with Berrios. It's going to be hard to stay patient in a playoff push if our glorified rookies wouldn't be successful. We let Berrios grow, but we weren't all too competitive then. Just remembered though, that we also have Lachlan Wells, Griffin Jax, and Bryan Sammons also wanting to make a debut. It seems like we're more likely to see one of those guys first being Balazovic and Duran haven't been above a very short amount of AA. Although, I'd LOVE to be wrong about that. -
4 Corey Kluber Alternatives for the Twins
jrod23 replied to Nate Palmer's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Meh. I'm all in on Odo. However, wouldn't it be just like Trevor Bauer to sign randomly the Twins? Dude's unpredictable. I'm excited to see where he lands. If he's really going to take on a 1-year contract every year. -

Twins Hinting at a Huge Month
jrod23 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The more I go down the White Sox roster position by position vs. our guys, the Sox look more and more tough. C: Y. Grandal/Collins vs. Garver/Jeffers - Grandal/Jeffers/Garver at their best is a draw, slight upper hand to Garver & Jeffers though. TWINS 1B: J. Abreu vs. Sano - Abreu all day. WHITE SOX 2B: N. Madrigal vs. Arraez - Straight draw. Both 23 and uber talented. DRAW 3B: Y. Moncada vs. Donaldson - Moncada entering his prime, Donaldson can't stay on the field. Moncada here. Prove me wrong Donaldson. WHITE SOX SS: T. Anderson vs. ??? - Trevor Story would give him a good run, but Anderson is incredible at getting on base. WHITE SOX LF: E. Jimenez vs. ??? - Jimenez for now. However, Kirilloff is going to be a phenomenal OF or 1B. Larnach will be Cuddyer 2.0 when he gets a shot. WHITE SOX CF: L. Robert vs. Buxton - Robert is everything that Always Broke Buxton was supposed to be. Sorry for calling you always broke. WHITE SOX RF: A. Eaton vs. Kepler - Kepler because he's more durable, but a healthy Eaton is still potent. TWINS SP: Giolito/Lynn/Keuchel/Cease/Kopech vs. Maeda/Berrios/Pineda/Dobnak/Smeltzer - Wow. Top 3 are pretty solid. Prospect clout would win over the 4 and 5 spots for the White Sox even though I love Dobnak. WHITE SOX Bullpen: I'd go Twins here. Even with Hendriks. TWINS. -

Why the Twins Shouldn't Re-Sign Nelson Cruz
jrod23 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I guess there's no rush as long as no other movements are being made. Just frustrating as a fan because it's what we crave in the offseason...especially with no Twinsfest!!! Everyone has very valid arguments that I guarantee the front office has thought of. What's the value of signing Cruz if you knew he was going to the Sox say we didn't sign him? That worth a few more million? -
How Do You Plan on Following the Twins in 2021?
jrod23 replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I truly enjoy the listening to games on WCCO. Like you Tom, I invested in the simplest, yet effective hand held radio last year. WCCO here at home and 103.5 or 94.3 while up at the lake (depending on weather). Nothing like sitting on the lake in the evening casting or jigging as Gladden and Provus talk you through the game, or sitting in the screened in porch during a thunderstorm. I truly miss Gordon's voice. Aside from that, how crazy would it be for the Twins and Wolves to go in on a TV station together? All kidding aside. This might be Dunning-Kruger Syndrome at it's finest, but the money to be made off of this, control of the airwaves, deciding what gets played, etc. would all be so beneficial to the fans. Or is this a headache s-storm the owners wouldn't want to embark on? I'm just so sick of Sinclair. They place the blame on YouTube and Hulu, but YouTube and Hulu do the same right back. Just dumb, because this is all due to rich people wanting to get richer. -
Top 20 Minnesota Twins Assets of 2021: Part 2 (11-15)
jrod23 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Drop Sano off this. Otherwise, prove me wrong and trade him for someone worth while. Secondly, besides being a highly above average hitter, Luis Arraez is actually a really good defender!!! Look up those career stats!!!- 14 replies

Twins Future Position Analysis: Centerfield
jrod23 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Agree w/everyone who mentioned Lewis. For someone who made such an impact in CF at the highest level besides AAA I was surprised he wasn't mentioned. I also agree that Lewis should succeed or fail at SS first. Watching him play CF though, was a thing of beauty. His jumps on the ball and his speed were extremely impressive, but more importantly, purely natural. -
Twins Future Position Analysis: Corner Outfield
jrod23 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is what I've been promoting for some time now. Larnach, Rooker, and Kirilloff are just going to keep getting older if we let them stay in AAA. If we happen to package Larnach or Rooker, that would open up space for Cave or Wade. If we don't move Sano, it would still bother me immensely if we choose to start Kirilloff in AAA. The organization clearly stated they feel he is better than Wade and Cave by starting him in the playoffs. By putting him back in the minors would show they only want to save his service time. Pretty contradictory if they'd want to field the best team they can. -
Twins Future Position Analysis: Catcher
jrod23 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I laughed at Good Mitch/Bad Mitch. Jeffers is a big league starting catcher. Finally, we have a catcher that produces and plays defense on roster for years to come. Haven't had that since Mauer, and Jeffers will hit more dingers. I like Mitch a lot, but this season, that we hold relevant, wasn't great for him. I'd love a bounce back from him and we make things work with him and Jeffers for 2-4 years to come. Fun fact, Mitch is the same age Jason Castro was when we signed him as a "veteran catcher" w/pop. He seems so much younger...No one's path is the same. -
Twins Future Position Analysis: Second Base
jrod23 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Polanco fits the profile of super utility guy. Polanco is very athletic with very good instincts and adjusts well. Why is this thing called a "super utility" man so hard to find? When it's your profession and you have ample amounts of time to train to be that player, how could you not be sufficient at the very least? Being a "super" utility man shouldn't be this position where only a select few men excel at it. There should be multiple in every organization. Guys in the minors play multiple positions every week. I know they're honing skills and covering holes, but many are truly gifted at it. Bottom line, I haven't had a conversation yet that leaves me satisfied that being able to play multiple positions in The Show should be as hard as people make it out to be. The players also now have cheat cards in their back pockets to help with shading and jumps.- 19 replies

Twins Future Position Analysis: Second Base
jrod23 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
These quotes echo my thoughts on Arraez. His defense has actually been good. Arraez's defensive stats at both the minor league level and MLB are considerably better than Polanco's at 2B...and SS for that matter. I'd say Polanco has better range, but Arraez can twitter to those gaps rather quick as well.- 19 replies

Baseball as a Business is Killing Fan Experience
jrod23 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I always thought Scott Boras was ruining the game. Wasn't until a few years back that I actually researched how much owners truly make and what percent of that goes to the players. I'll side with players 99% of the time now. Back in '94, I was 13 and blamed the whole thing on "cry baby" millionaire athletes. My father still has not attended a major league baseball game since then. Today, I literally can't comprehend the amount of money being scrutinized over between owners and players. What I do feel very strongly about is owners have lost the true sense of the game and the fan experience. Money completely rules all. ALL. One ballpark, the cheapest of dogs costs $6 and a draft 12 oz. beer (not craft, but a beer) cost $10.50. Have prices of dogs and beer at cost truly skyrocketed that much where owners NEED to do this? I'm mentioning parking, but I won't. I digress...cough...Minor Leagues...cough. Owners have allowed everything to get to a boiling point. I pray it won't, but the next CBA is going to get nasty. -
Twins Future Position Analysis: Third Base
jrod23 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What frightens me is that Donaldson could be on the bench more than 2/3 the time or more each year of his contract. He and Buxton give me that constant sense of unreliability. Lewis w/out a doubt could be a stud at 3B. I'd almost lean towards him taking over CF over 3B if he's not at SS though. I won't complain about anything as long as Lewis is up and doing great. However, I'd love to have a lockdown SS for the next 10 years. It would be great if Blank came in when Donaldson were to go down (expected) and rocked it.- 18 replies

Twins Future Position Analysis: Shortstop
jrod23 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like all the dialogue here. I think the Twins would need Polanco to fit the utility roll more than Polanco needs it. He's sufficient when healthy at short. However, in order for the Twins to keep Jorge's bat, Arraez at 2B, and allow Lewis to blossom, we'll need someplace to put him. Then there's the 2B route for Jorge. I would hate to push Arraez out of that spot. Jorge may be the better defender there w/more pop, but I truly believe Arraez will be a career .300+ hitter. Which is more important? Gordon...man I keep regretting the Twins not trading him and Gonsalves, and Jay was it, for Gerrit Cole. Woof. The poor kid can't keep it together in one way, shape, or form. I wouldn't hate him getting an opportunity, but I'd prefer utilizing Polanco, Arraez, and Lewis. As for Lewis, we're going to LOVE his Torii Hunter-like passion for the game. He is full of enthusiasm and charisma, not to mention insane amounts of God given talent. As long as his game continues to improve, he will be our team leader w/a corner locker for a decade. I'm not concerned about his defense, his work ethic, or intangibles. I'm concerned about his bat. -
Going to a AAA game would typically mean you're watching guys that end up in the majors across the country that have little to do with your home state team (if you're fortunate enough to have one). Now we have it one COUNTY away. We are now spoiled and this will no doubt have a very positive affect on ticket sales. Just PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't jack up ticket prices in any way. I know they say they won't this season, but trust doesn't run too deep with MLB owners. Cheap seats and concessions is what helps makes the minors, "the minors".

Why Haven’t the Twins Signed Nelson Cruz Yet?
jrod23 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I get what you're saying. He deserves any deal that is thrown at him and more, but that's not my point. He's made over $100 million dollars since 2011. Any money now is just sprinkles on the whip cream on top of the frosting. What I'm saying is tell your agent where you want to play. Play there. Be happy. Ride off into the sunset...and I hope it's the Twins. -
Why Haven’t the Twins Signed Nelson Cruz Yet?
jrod23 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I get that Nelson has a family to take care of. I get that he wants to take care of other players at the position to be paid in the future. However, it's his last year. Why wouldn't you go and play where ever you wanted and be happy. You'll get paid PLENTY. Just go play where you want to play and don't worry about anything else. -
