  1. I wonder if the Twins had more international money left in their wallet than the Yankees, or if the Yankees just backed off of the kid for some reason.
  2. The disappointment in the drafting/developing was not based on this year's draft class. It was based on the decisions made over the past decade or so. Actually to me, it looks like the drafting philosophy changed this year. The Twins focused on strikeout arms this year, so far it's looking like they have decent control as well, but in the past the priorities had obviously been in the opposite order. Ryan had been quoted as saying they had always looked for hard throwers but he was just being stubborn about admitting to the change. Although he is in denial about adjusting pitching philosophies, it is at least a step in the right direction and I have hopes some top of the rotaion arms can finally come out of a Twins draft class. Perhaps the same stubborn change will also be reflected in the offseason free agent decisions. As there seems to be an obvious change in pitching attitudes, I'm for giving the front office another chance, but again, the frustration was not largely with this draft class but the long history of failures this decade.
  3. If the Twins can get something special for Morneau this offseason sure, move him. Otherwise wait until next July. It's a total fluke that Morneau, Doumit and Willingham have all stayed relatively healthy thus far this season. Those three have always been very injury prone. Odds are Parmelee will find an opening due to one of them going down sooner or later. Parmelee is a good contingency plan, it would seem foolish not to have one with so many of the corner IF/OF guys having a history of injuries.
  4. Good lord, the Cubs and Cardinals have basically swapped this affiliate for the last three decades? What kind of turmoil does changing allegiances between bitter rivals cause the fan base? I think this reflects the situation with Rochester's ambivilant fanbase. Signing with an affiliate doesn't necessarily buy the loyalty of the locals.
  5. At the very least he might help keep Rusty Harden in town for whan future Minnesota athletes perform nefarious unlawful deeds.
  6. Steroids are clearly illegal because of the adverse effect on literacy rates. Most baffling is the fact that it clearly shows he edited his post 11 minutes later. Is it possible it was more poorly and more redundantly written before the edit?
  7. DJ Hicks played his first game since July 28th on Saturday and Romy Jimenez hasn't played since July 26th. Neither were listed on an injury report that I saw, anyone know why they haven't been on the field for E'ton?
  8. Hicks went 2 for 3 with a HR, 2B and two BB in his return to the lineup Saturday. He had not played since July 28th but had no been listed on any injury report I could see. Romy Jimenez has been out since July 26th though he too has not been listed on any report I can find.
  9. Morales has yet to have anything close to sustained positive offensive streak going this year. 2012 has been a disaster and it quite likely could mean the end of his run with the Twins. 12 K's to 0 BB in his last 10 games along with a .206 average. Even if he has a couple of strong weeks to end the season, I don't think there is a chance for redemption.
  10. I like my chances against Eddie Gaedel unless we are having a BB contest. Pretty sure half the posters on the site could do what Allan Travers did in his one appearance. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/traveal01.shtml It would be hard to put up those numbers pitching batting practice.
  11. Income taxes will be a drop of water in the whole financial impact. Major reason: ST does not count as work so the major leaguer's income taxes do not count. On the other hand, last time I checked, (that was like 10 years ago) FL did not have state income taxes Florida does not have income tax. Otherwise building the stadium would be a no-brainer. Florida resident Joe Mauer would pay for it after his first filing.
  12. Winners have a killer instinct; losers play not to lose. Winners ride their starters deep into games and push them past their pitch-count if needed; losers pull them after the 6th during a close game and let the outcome ride on the natually inferior arms in the bullpen.
  13. I'm no minor league expert, but isn't two years kind of a short contract for a minor league affiliate? Does anyone know which other team's AAA affiliates will be free agents in two years? I'm just wondering if either Rochester or the Twins have their sights on a specific team come 2015?
  14. So the Twins trade for the division leading White Sox's utility infielder and the Twins' system is so much better that he can't even beat Pedro Florimon to Target Field?
  15. Perhaps the Jays moved him because his speed was such an asset in the OF, something that the Twins currently have plenty of throughout their system, and something the Jays were lacking, considering that Adam Lind was manning a corner spot at the time.
  16. not really, the seasons end at teh same time. If they get called up, they will be there for September... it's quite likely that both will start next season in Rochester. But is Rochester the Twins AAA team next year?
  17. Great, now we get to bring politics into the discussion about our already devisive GM. This could get ugly.
  18. Both getting called up straight from AA might be a fun final FU to Rochester. I'd like to see both play in AAA as bypassing that level has not been the best choice over the last year for the Twins young players, but it would be a fun middle finger to give to those Yankee fans if the Twins do switch AAA affiliates.
  19. So do you feel you don't need an ace to win a World Series, or is trying to win a World Series not worth the price of paying an ace? Doesn't matter really, Ryan feels the same way except he doesn't even give out two year deals unless the guy has already been a Twin. Not that the Twins would be at the top of his list, but if Dan Haren's $15 million option isn't picked up by the Angles, and it very well may not if they have sights on re-signing Zack Greinke, he might take a one year rebound contract.
  20. I think it's a little flawed because the Twins have better RIGHT handed hitters this year. Are there results of HR totals hit to right field and center?
  21. Ha, just what the Twins are known for.
  22. Need to list everyone the Twins got in the Tim Tueffle trade. Billy Beane, Bill Latham and Joe Klink were all awful. Of course the Tueffle trade led to the promotion of inadaquate Steve Lombardozzi which led to the Brunansky/Herr trade everyone is still upset about.
  23. There's plenty of complaining on this site as expected due to a losing club, but since when are trade suggestions a mark of negativity? Sure, poor ones leave a bad taste in our mouths, but a successful one gets people pretty pumped up. It's bittersweet losing a fan favorite, but getting upset about trade talk seems naive. Keeping a player from their rookie season until their retirement is rarely a good business move. I'll bet no one is still upset about trading Chuck Knoblauch except the Yankees.
  24. Seems like a strange acquisition for both sides.
  25. --For a young man who learnt his trade at his local Winston Hills Baseball Club, the signing means a lot to him and his dream of playing professional baseball.-- Is this really acceptable grammer for a reporter in Australia!? It says he pitched 20 innings over nine appearances, if he's not starting in Australia, I'm assuming he won't be doing so here.
