  1. How about if we ask the question about Willingham instead? What would happen if Willingham ended up getting traded to a team on the playoff bubble, especially and AL team, and ended up carrying them to the postseason? No doubt if Willingham was hitting like this for a contender his name would be in the discussion. Would voters overlook his stats with the lowly Twins and only judge him on his numbers with the contender?
  2. Hudson Boyd was a HS comp pick last year. He's still in E'ton, of course he didn't pitch for the orgainzation last year.
  3. Seems like we'll be reading something in the police blotter about this, although Beloit is in WI so there might be a lot to comb through. Getting cut only 9 innings into a promotion is pretty strange otherwise.
  4. I like this idea best but with the promotion of Marte, the Pirates have improved thier OF and leadoff spot. Perhaps the Liriano/Span combo could be dangled to the Rangers or Nationals. My bet is also with the Angles. Last report was they somehow thought they could get James Shields for Peter Bourjos and Hank Conger. That's a pretty lowball offer. They'll continue to refuse to give up anything of real importance and will settle for Liriano. I'll bet the Twins get someone(s) who we have yet to consider. Maybe Cam Bedrosian, the front office love the sons of former Twins.
  5. It was a good list. No AL Central teams though. Intra-division trading isn't commong but the Twins have made moves the the Tigers and Indians in the last couple years.
  6. Good point, but it certainly would make the White Sox odds on favorites to sign him this off-season.
  7. Yeah, only possible comp pick next year is if they offer Liriano the qualifying offer, and all reports say Liriano is 100% going to be traded. They weren't even in the lottory for the small market/low revenue comp round. Of course the Tigers were, yet somehow they managed to sign Prince Fielder this off-season. Twins will have another top five pick but then not again until round 2.
  8. The Reds already have four quality starters under the age of 26 and that's assuming they don't give Chapman a chance to start next year. It might sound rediculous, but along with Sulbaran, they have three stud arms in AA and may have nowhere for them to go in the next year. Dealing one of them for a long-term upgrade to the leadoff and CF spots is probably something they should be willing to do.
  9. Pass. I guess I'll play the homer, but that should be the return for Willingham and his awesome contract alone. Only one of the Giants top ten prospects and the under-achieving Brandon Belt? Pass. The best prospect included in that deal is a reliever, no thanks. The Giants just do not have the starting pitching quality to match up with the Twins. Giving up four established players and only getting back 2 minor league starters, only one of which is in the organizations top 20, seems laughable. Edit: Time to give Terry Ryan a criticism break for the day. If Ryan steps down as GM again, obviously the Twins could do much worse.
  10. This guy was supposedly very raw and his skill set was based on athleticism. That's why I was surprised today when I saw his BB/K numbers. 20BB/15k in 143 PA? That is very impressive. That kind of plate presence often leads to quick promotions.
  11. Seeing as how deflated Gardy looks after some of the more terrible loses, I kind of got the feeling that he may actually hang it up if presented the opportunity by Terry Ryan. I guess if a coaching change is ever in the books, Gardy isn't going to make it easy on the GM.
  12. If a move was in the making, Terry Ryan would give Gardy the option of saving face and resigning/retiring in the off-season. He may very well think it's time to call it quits anyway.
  13. Parmelee was added to the 40-man November of 2010, meaning this is only his second season on the roster. Unless there is another obscure rule that applies to Parmelee (and there certainly could be), he has a third option year in 2013. Many people think every time a player gets promoted/demoted in the same season means they lose an option; I'm not sure if that was the cause of the initial confusion.
  14. Perhaps his colemn isn't subversive to the Twins cause, but I still find it awfully subjective reporting. He isn't saying that other GM's are telling him the players are "pricey", "more pricey" and "it made me laugh" those are his words, meaning he knows who the Twins have talked to and who they have asked for but won't let the readers decide for themselves because he's shielding these GM's. These GM's wouldn't be anonymously be leaking this info to Stark unless they wanted it public that they think the Twins need to accept less than their current asking price.
  15. Sano is playing games in Beloit not Ft. Myers. To me it seems unlikely rumors in Wisconsin make it all the way to Florida but don't cross the border to Minnesota. If true, it seems like something Jim Souhan would have complained about by now. Not to be critical but even if he is a poorly behaved teenager (which I guess I'd feel more comfortable with that label if there were examples) doesn't mean he will be a poorly behaved adult. I've rarely met a 19-year-old male that didn't drive me crazy by acting like he knew everything, experienced everything and acted like he was invincible. Most kids grow out of that.
  16. Easy for Stark to report without giving examples. By saying that, he is shielding the teams the Twins are in discussions with and the prospects/players in said discussions while undermining the Twins. Seems like pretty subjective reporting to me. Seems like all the other potential players on the move have at least one if not multiple teams attached to a possible trade. I wonder why we aren't hearing any teams mentioned in Twins trades aside from Danny Gladden's failed Pirates trade rumor.
  17. Good game for Hicks last nigh. 3-5 with a HR and 2B and 3 R. His other 2 AB's resulted in K's.
  18. Interesting to hear. I guess I never thought of Dan Gladden as someone who was intricately connected to the Twins front office. I'm sure his knowledge is legit, I'd just expect to hear Liriano/Piratets rumors from other sources first. The team is on a road trip though, lots of gossip can flow through those hotel rooms, during flights and shuttles to the ballpark.
  19. The Twins have far and away the worst pitching WAR in the league at 1.6. The Nationals pitchers have a 1.6 WAR...on offense. The Nationals pitchers are just as good at hitting as the Twins pitchers are at pitching.
  20. It was Duensing, he was actually a 3rd round comp pick as the Nationals were big spenders that offseason. I play the Chuck Knoblauch trade card everytime my mom gets emotional about trade talk involving one of her favorites. The move is still paying. It would be fun to add up the games/innings/WAR the Twins have gotten from everyone who contributed from the Knoblauch trade. P.S. Don't for get that clutch hitting relief pitcher Bobby Korecky was also obtained in the Milton trade.
  21. Good news, I came looking for this thread because I thought his original recovery prognosis had him expected back by next week.
  22. Brian Duensing was the comp pick the Twins got for losing Christian Guzman.
  23. Liriano won't take the one year qualifying offer, he's likely going to be the best and youngest lefty on the market next year. Even if he stumbles down the stretch, some team is going to offer multiple years and his agent knows it. If that holds true, I'd take the draft pick over the grab bag the Astros got, but we really don't know if the Astros could have improved the quality of their return if they would have lessened the quantity of their return.
  24. Anyone know why Rogers is getting the chance to start but the rest of the pitchers at E'ton drafted this year (and almost all have been impressive in their small sample size!) have all gotten relief duty? I'm not sure about the other pitchers work loads prior to the draft, but so far Rogers is the only member of the 2012 E'ton draft class who has been pushed for innings.
  25. This is totally right, but more and better are quite different as far as prospects go. At this point I'd rather have one top 20-30 prospect and another B prospect than a half dozen B, C or throw-in guys. There's value either way you go, but if the Twins are going to blow this thing up I think they should have one guy they can hold up to the fan base and say, wait till you see him.
